According to TVEquals, the synopsis for tonight's episode reads: "As she faces a new crisis, Katherine remembers the traumatic night in 1490 when she gave birth to the daughter who was immediately taken from her."

While executive producer Julie Plec says that most of the "Vampire Diaries" characters are glad to see the last of Katherine, who repeatedly tried to ruin their lives to save herself, Stefan has more complicated feelings about the dying 500-year-old vampire in the milestone 100th episode.

"Stefan is having a more bittersweet reaction to it," Plec revealed, TVLine reports. "He's been as victimized by her over the centuries as anybody else. And yet, he can't help but feel compassion for this woman, this survivor, who has reached the end of the line."

We're also expecting a bunch of flashbacks in tonight's episode to commemorate Katherine's long and tumultuous life, and we hope to see Stefan and Damon in them!

According to TVLine, the episode flashes back to the night Katherine gave birth to a baby girl, who grew up to be Nadia: "We're really going to have an opportunity to understand Katherine in a new light," Candice Accola, who plays Caroline, said. "It's a really great look at this character.

"If you really look at it, she's the root that started this whole [story]," the actress continued. "The only reason Stefan stopped in Mystic Falls was because he thought he saw Katherine. The only reason Damon returned to Mystic Falls was because he was looking for Katherine. The only reason Caroline is a vampire is because of Katherine. The only reason Damon and Stefan ever became vampires was because of Katherine. And Elena is her doppelganger, so all brings it together. We're really going to get to know the root of this group in a new light, and we're going to learn more about her, and what she's going through as a human."

"The Vampire Diaries" season 5, episode 11 "500 Years of Solitude" airs tonight, January 23 at 8:00 PM on The CW.
