Selena Gomez Talks Demi Lovato Rehab, Feud: ‘She's One Of My Inspirations’ After Seeking Treatment For Drug Abuse, Addiction

Selena Gomez opened up about Demi Lovato's rehab and the feud that ensued between the two former best friends. Selena Gomez says she's grateful for having Demi Lovato back in her life after seeking treatment in rehab for drug abuse and drug addiction.

Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato's "feud" began around 2010, the same year Lovato entered rehab for an eating disorder, self-harm issues, and drug abuse, E! News reports. Gomez opened up about their friendship in the March 2014 issue of Seventeen magazine.

"I've known her since we were 7, and we did fall apart for a while," Gomez said of Lovato, referring to when the "Neon Lights" singer entered rehab. "She was going through things and I was so young and it was confusing. I processed it saying, 'OK, I don't understand what she's going through so I'm just going to do this.' I don't think it was fair, and I'm so happy that I have her back in my life now."

Gomez, 21, praises Lovato, 21, for seeking treatment for drug abuse and drug addiction to cocaine and alcohol, and staying sober since leaving rehab. "I feel like we're all given what we can handle, and clearly someone thought she could handle so much-and she could, and she did. And she's incredible for that. I couldn't imagine going through some of the things that she went through, and the fact that she is who she is today is insane-she's one of my inspirations."

Gomez says Lovato's decision to share her struggles with the public inspired her to reach out to her former best friend.

"Demi's very, very strong. She's the only person that I would tell the deepest, darkest secrets to. The only person," Gomez said.

Demi released a book in November called "Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year," made up of daily affirmations. She has also signed on to write another book, a tell-all memoir of her struggles with alcohol and drugs while also juggling being a young Disney star, Us Weekly reports.

In December, Selena supported Demi by joining her visit to a drug rehab center to give a talk. According to TMZ, Demi spoke to a recovery group for an hour, and told an "inspiring personal survival story."
