Los Angeles Coach Mike D’Antoni Blasts Team For Poor Defense; Lakers Loses Yet Another Game To Carmelo Anthony’s New York Knicks

The Los Angeles Lakers is struggling, a fact that many fans don't want really to discuss. Their season so far has been marred by injuries and they're not getting any break.

On Sunday, their seven-day Grammy trip ended with another loss, just like the way they started it.  The Los Angeles Lakers fell to hot-streaking Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks, to extend the Hollywood franchise's losing woes to four. Coming off a 62-point production, Melo scored 35 points to snatch a 110-103 victory for his team which just like the Lakers is also under .500. Because of this defeat, the Kobe Bryant-less team has allowed 100 or more points for a 12th consecutive game, something they hadn't done since 1988-89,  This is a testament of how badly the team is in defense.

Before the game in Madison Square Garden, Los Angeles Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni was asked by reporters what was the problem with his team. Straightly, he answered, defense.

"Yeah, if they want. There's nothing wrong with the defense [schematically]. It's what everybody does," D'Antoni said animatedly. "Can we do it better? Yeah. Could we run back on defense? Yeah. Could we not turn the ball over? Yeah. Can we pay attention to your man? Yes. Can we not get backdoored? Yes.

Despite the loss to Miami Heat the other day, the former Phoenix Suns coach remains optimistic that they can repair their campaign sooner.

"Everything in that room is fixable. And they know that. We're getting better at it. We do have some physical stuff. We're not quite the fastest team in the league and we're not this and that. There are some things where we'll have some weaknesses. But yeah, we can get better."

His words sound really good to the ears. However, when the tip off came, their defense remains as it was in Miami, a sore in the eye.

The Knicks scored 51 points in halftime and on the dying minutes, Carmelo was able to score five straight points, allowing them to pull away.
