Good Luck Charlie, Disney Channel's family-oriented sitcom, has introduced a breakthrough that no other Disney shows dared to do in the past. On its latest episode on Sunday, the show welcomes its very first lesbian couple character.

In the first part of the show's two episode season finale, Desi Lydic and another woman played as the parents of Charlie's friend, Taylor According to the storyline, Amy and Bob set up a playdate for preschooler Charlie and one of her new friends, Taylor. However, before the date, the couple was confused because both Taylor's parents have female names.

"Taylor has two moms!" proclaimed Bob (Eric Allan Kramer), upon meeting the two women, to which sassy wife Amy (Leigh Allyn Baker) responded, "Wow! Nothing gets past you, Bob."

The scene has been planned by Good Luck Charlie since June last year.

"This particular storyline was developed under the consultancy of child development experts and community advisors," a Disney Channel spokesperson told TV Guide in a statement in June.

"Like all Disney Channel programming, it was developed to be relevant to kids and families around the world and to reflect themes of diversity and inclusiveness."

This move by Disney received praises from their viewers, including high profile celebrities and former Disney stars.

Miley Cyrus, one of Disney's biggest alumni, and Evan Rachel Wood commended the show through their Twitter account.
