Tara Reid Turns The Big Apple Into An American Pie in `Sharknado 2: The Second One'; Tara Reid Plays the Shark; Ian Ziering Plays The Fin
Tara Reid will save New York in "Sharknado 2: The Second One." SyFy announced that American Pie actress Tara Reid and Ian Ziering will reprise their roles from the immensely popular monster-disaster mashup movie "Sharknado."
Syfy and The Asylum announced that Ian Ziering and Tara Reid will reunite their roles as Fin and April in the "Sharknado" sequel, "Sharknado 2: The Second One." "Sharknado 2" also reteams director Anthony Ferrante with screenwriter Thunder Levin, who wrote and directed the "Sharknado" last summer.
Besides Tara Reid and Ziering, The Asylum and Syfy have struck a deal with legendary casting director Mike Fenton and his partner Ann Frederick, of Fenton-Frederick Casting, to supervise cameo casting. That's people casting, the famous shark from "Jaws" wanted too much money to come out of retirement.
SyFy described the sequel in a release saying "In "Sharknado 2" The Second One,: a freak weather system turns its deadly fury on New York City, unleashing a Sharknado on the population and its most cherished, iconic sites - and only Fin and April can save the Big Apple."
Thomas Vitale, SyFy's Executive Vice President, Programming and Original Movies, said "Sharknado was an extraordinary 'perfect storm' which captured the attention of movie fans across the globe. You couldn't go anywhere without hearing about Sharknado! By reassembling the creative team - and dropping sharks onto New York's iconic sites - we're unleashing yet another 'fin' wave of shark-mania."
Paul Bales, Chief Operating Officer of The Asylum said "We're thrilled to be able to bring back the talent that made Sharknado a hit. Can lightning strike twice? I don't know, but it's a scientific fact that you're more likely to be killed by lightning than by a shark. This film will have lightning and sharks, so that's got to count for something."
The original "Sharknado" became a social media sensation when it debuted on the Syfy channel last summer. Thomas Vitale, the EVP of Programing and Original movies at Syfy, said "Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm - on television. The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that Sharknado 2 will be lots of fun. We'll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn't want our fans to worry they wouldn't get their fill of more shark fin, I mean, fun next year."
"Sharknado 2" starts shooting in New York on February 13.
"Sharknado 2: The Second One" is scheduled to premiere on Syfy in July.
