The Lego Movie Sequel Announced Days Before The 1st Installment Hits The Big Screen; Film Producer Says This Is Not Just Another Brand Trying To Make More Money

The Lego Movie by Warner Bros Pictures will hit the big screen on February 7 and yet, the production company already feels confident about the film that they are now planning a sequel.

Entertainment website The Wrap reported on Saturday that Warner Bros is now working on hiring staff, to work for the toy movie's second film.

"Warner Bros. has already begun work on a sequel to "The Lego Movie," the upcoming animated film based on the popular kids' toys, according to two individuals with knowledge of the studio's plans. Jared Stern, who wrote "The Internship" and "Mr. Popper's Penguins," is working on the script with Michelle Morgan ("Girl Most Likely")," the Wrap said in a post.

"Stern's involvement is born out of the creative consortium of top-notch writers and directors Warner Bros. created to foster new animated projects. "The Lego Movie" was greenlit before the formation of this consortium, but it is the studio's first animated release since it decided to put it together. Warner Bros. did not immediately respond to a request for comment."

The Lego Movie is expected to become a big hit once it opens this weekend, one possible reason why the brains behind it think it deserve a second film.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Matthew Ashton, vice president of creative design for Lego and a producer on the film said that their product shouldn't be compared to franchises like Transformers because they didn't just make it to sell toys or make money.

''The last thing that we wanted to do was be perceived as 'Oh, this is just Lego trying to make more money, just to sell more toys,''' he said.

''If you look at Lego as a creative medium, it's very much like modeling clay is in a 'Wallace & Gromit' movie. It's just a different way of expressing a story.''
