Ronda Rousey Is a Movie Contender; UFC Fighter Lands Two Movie Roles After Championship and Buzz From Expendables

Ronda Rousey is taking more time out of the ring and onto the big screen. Ronda might have a franchise in her future. Rousey will have a starring role in the movie version of the HBO series "Entourage" and is attached to star in an adaptation of Brad Thor's best-selling book "Athena Project."

Variety reported that Warner Bros. saw Ronda Rousey, 27, defend her UFC women's bantamweight title against Miesha Tate on Dec. 28 and signed her up for two high-profile big-screen projects.

Ronda is set to shoot her part in "Entourage" sometime in mid-March. Rousey will be hot off what will be her third attempted title defense on Feb. 22 at Las Vegas' Mandalay Bay Events Center.

The studio has not named a screenwriter for "Athena Project."

Ronda was a knockout in "Expendables 3″ and "Fast and Furious 7″ and Warner Bros. scooped her up "Entourage." The studio is also on the lookout for scripts for the UFC champ. Warner Bros bought "Athena," after Rousey met and "clicked" with the writer, the New York Times bestseller Thor. Insiders say Rousey fell in love with the book and attached herself to the project before it even had a studio involved.

According to the official synopsis Athena is about "The story follows a top secret, all-female Delta Force counter-terrorism team code named 'The Athena Project' that is sent in to hunt and kill a master terrorist after a bombing in Rome kills 20 Americans. Trouble ensues once the team realizes this is more than a simple bombing."

Rousey will be a member of an all-female Delta Force squad.

Rousey began her Hollywood career by joining "The Expendables 3″ and "Fast and Furious 7″ shoots in September of 2013. In "Expendables 3," Rousey is a member of the "Young Expendables." Insiders say the UFC champ has 20 scenes and 35 lines of dialogue. "Fast and Furious 7″ won't open until April 2015. It was delayed after the November death of co-star Paul Walker.

Rousey continued to train for her rematch with Miesha Tate on Dec. 31 while she shot both "The Expendables 3″ and "The Fast and Furious 7.″ Her acting chops have cast a shadow over her fighting future.

Variety writes that Athena could lead to is a possible franchise for Ronda. Rousey could be making the move from UFC champion to action movie star. A lot of athletes went into movies, going all the way back to Johnny Weismuller and Tarzan.

"Expendables 3″ is set to hit theaters on Aug. 15.
