Smartphones > Sex, Americans Want Gadgets More Than Sexual Pleasures, Study Suggests; Survey Participants Also Thinks Internet Is More Important Than Love

People always say that love is what makes the world go round. Many also think that they would choose their partners over any materials or money, all day. However, a recent survey says otherwise.

Harris Interactive, one of the world's leading market research firms, leveraging research, technology, and business acumen, has conducted a survey aimed at determining the top 10 things people can't live without. The survey, which was joined by 2,210 adults, has a very shocking result.

Out of the total number of participants, 20% said they cannot live without sex, something that is surprisingly lower than the 26% who chose smartphones. Food topped the list with 73%, followed by car 42%, internet 28%, smartphone, and laptop 24%. Television also ranked higher than intimate relationships with 23% at sixth place.

Although it is surprising that gadgets topped the list, Robert Wilde reports of Breitbart, insists that it is the apps inside that will justify the choice. Many participants think that their gadgets help improve everything around them, whether personal or business.

"The study by Harris Interactive also discovered that almost three quarters of adults say technology enriches the quality of their lives, and almost half of the people surveyed believe it improves their relationships with friends and boosts their social lives," Wilde reports. "About 40% of those polled thinks technology makes them happier."

According to a statement posted by Harris Interactive on its website, there are "higher percentages than seen among the general population of U.S. adults - see technology as having benefitted them personally; it is worthy of note, however, that they are also more likely to see technology as benefitting people in general."

  • Technology has improved the overall quality of my life (86% ITDMs, 71% U.S. adults).
  • Technology encourages people to be more creative (79% ITDMs, 65% U.S. adults).
  • Technology enhances my social life (69% ITDMs, 52% U.S. adults).
  • I use technology as an escape from my busy life (65% ITDMs, 47% U.S. adults).
