McDonald’s Menu Items To Go Vegan? Fast Food Chain Faces Another Controversy After Pink Slime Chicken McNuggets Issue

Will McDonald's menu items have an all-vegan transformation after its pink slime Chicken McNuggets controversy? Last week, the fast food chain faced criticism after the pink slime Chicken McNuggets photo went viral. The suspicious pink goop allegedly comes from the nuggets.

However, the giant chain was quick to upload a video showing how the nuggets were actually processed. After the issue, a campaign has surfaced urging McDonald's menu items to have "healthy and meatless" choices.

Vegan author Kathy Freston started the online petition has gained nearly 98,000 signatures on Change.org. Several celebrities such as Pamela Anderson and Alicia Silverstone have likewise shared the news. The Facebook page of the 'Ellen DeGeneres Show' also posted the petition's link on its wall.

"Adding plant-based protein options at McDonald's will appeal to workers out for a quick lunch, families with health-conscious members out to dinner, children on field trips, and anyone looking for something different than the current menu at McDonald's where even the french fries contain beef flavoring," said the petition's aspiration.

The PETA-supported campaign believes that including healthy options in the McDonald's menu items will assist in lessening the alarming rates of obesity and diabetes in the United States.

"McDonald's has an opportunity to make a smart business decision that can benefit millions of Americans looking to fight heart disease and obesity," says Freston.

Other chains are offering McDonald's menu items that are healthy such as India's McVeggie burger and Europe's McVeggie wraps.
