Paul Wesley is directing "Vampire Diaries" season 5, episode 18, but production of the episode was shut down due to the winter storm sweeping across Atlanta, Georgia and the rest of the northeast of the US. Production of "The Originals" has also been shut down in Atlanta.

The winter storm hitting Atlanta has forced four television productions to shut down, according to The Hollywood Reporter: The CW's "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals," both of which film in Atlanta, and Lifetime's series "Devious Maids" and "Drop Dead Diva."

According to E! Online, "The Vampire Diaries" is currently filming its 18th episode, which is being directed by star Paul Wesley; he is making his directorial debut.

Production has stopped since Wednesday, and E! Online speculates that filming could be impacted for the rest of the week.

A winter storm warning has been put into effect for the state of Georgia until 1 p.m. ET Thursday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The National Weather Service called the "significant" incoming storm "an event of historical proportions."

Wesley describes his upcoming episode as "both nostalgic and suspenseful."

"It feels like our world, but something is a bit askew. It feels uneasy. And I respond to that," he added.

"It's an honor and the cast couldn't be any more supportive, which I feel truly grateful for," Paul also told Buzzfeed.

So how did Wesley land the gig?

"I spent a year shadowing directors, attending meetings, prepping, sitting in the editing room, etc. Even though I have been working in TV for years, it ended up being such a blessing because I learned invaluable information," Paul dished. "They finally granted me an episode, which was met with a great deal of excitement and nervousness on my part."

"The Vampire Diaries" season 5, episode 14, titled "No Exit" airs Thursday, February 27 at 8 p.m. ET on the CW.
