Girls’ Generation Vs 2NE1 - 2 Different Groups’ Fierce Competition

SM Entertainment's Girls' Generation will battle it out against YG Entertainment's 2NE1 in their simultaneous new album release on the 24th.

Girls' Generation is a leading artist of K-Pop that has gained a global fan base. They will be challenged by 2NE1, who will hold their 2nd world tour and release their new full length album. The music industry is buzzing with what is expected to be one of the hottest battles of the year.

These two groups have different genres and personalities, but they both stand at the K-Pop Hallyu center, and are expected to have a significant impact on K-Pop.

Music Video Vs Live

Girls' Generation's global popularity is verified through their music video. Their song "I Got a Boy," which was released last year, recorded over 85 million views on YouTube, and even won the Music Video of the Year Award at the YouTube Music Awards. Their new album Mr.Mr falls far behind "I Got a Boy" in comparison, but is still garnering huge interest, as is evident by the 1.25 million views it received in just one day. This album contains Girls' Generation's 19th music video, and is one of the most viewed K-Pop music videos. Girls' Generation will start their broadcast activities on the 20th through their appearance on cable channel Mnet's "M Countdown." 2NE1 will be opening up their activities with their live performance in concert on March 1st. 2NE1 has an upper hand in live performances, and have been dubbed 'onstage warriors.' Their strength lies more in improvisation and live performances rather than calculated performances. At their first world tour in 2012, the group met with 180,000 fans across 5 countries. Group member CL also had a successful season last year with her solo activities, and the group is going on their 2nd world tour. They will kick off the tour with their first concert in Seoul on March 1st and 2nd, then travel to 13 cities across 9 countries, including Korea, Japan, and China. Their 'AON (All Or Nothing)' world tour will showcase the girl group's confidence onstage. 2NE1's live stage performance and skillful, showy performance does set them apart from other girl groups. As a hip hop group they know how to put on dynamic performances, and definitely have a talent for leading their fans with a plus factor. It doesn't hurt that they are leading fashionistas that always satisfy and exceed their fans' expectations.

Established Vs Challenge

Girls' Generation's new song "Mr.Mr" was produced by American producing duo team The Underdogs. The producing duo has previously worked with leading pop icons such as Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, and Britney Spears, and even produced TVXQ's "Viva." The Underdogs have already been certified and established in the music industry. On the other hand, 2NE1 is putting forth their 2nd full length album for the first time in 4 years. Of the 10 songs on the album, 9 of the song are new, and 2NE1 member CL herself composed and wrote 3 of those songs. CL's trying her hand as a singer songwriter. While the group's first full length album contained previously released singles and some new songs, their second full length album is chock full of new songs. It is rumored to show 2NE1's 6 years of experience, personality, color, and potential. The album, titled Crush, is significant for 2NE1 because it indicates a new beginning. YG Entertainment's CEO Yang Hyun Suk stated, "We've prepared the album with the thought that each one of the songs are title songs, and worked very hard in selecting and meticulously preparing each song."
