B.A.P’s Consecutive Music Program Wins - How Did They Captivate The Public?

Boy group B.A.P has taken consecutive wins on music programs KBS' "Music Bank" and SBS' "Inkigayo." In just 2 years of their debut, they have risen significantly as a popular idol group, and succeeded with their 1st full length album.

B.A.P was already established in their album sales, overseas popularity, solo concerts, and overseas tours. And now they've added music program wins to their resume, and climbed the ranks as a truly popular idol group. The group is only in their 2nd year of activities since their debut. They come from a relatively small agency called TS Entertainment and have been growing steadily, and it looks like they are good role models with a healthy future that will continue to grow.

#1 In Music Broadcast Programs

B.A.P has recorded their highest rank with their new song "1004". They are currently number 9 on digital Gaon Charts for the 3rd week in February. If we don't consider the OSTs, they're following not far behind SISTAR's Soyou and Junggigo, and Gain. It's not the easiest for boy groups to be active in this market, but B.A.P has succeeded in reaching the top ranks, even winning the number 1 award on a few music programs.

It should be noted that this was made possible because they changed the target audience for their new song. They knew that they already had the teen fans with their warrior image, and decided to appeal to female fans in their 20s and 30s with pop and rock instead of just hip hop. They've put their emphasis on the chorus melody and their sexy charisma by wearing dandy black suits.

Domestic Popularity that Extended Overseas

Fortunately for the group, their redirected focus had a good impact on their overseas public image. Billboard World Album Charts recorded B.A.P as number 1 three time now. Last year's 2nd mini album One Shot and 3rd mini album Badman took the number 1 spot, and B.A.P did it again this time around with their new album. Not only that, they're ranked as number 44 on iTunes Top 100 Album Chart, and ranked in iTunes Store Top 10 Hip-Hop Albums Charts across 9 different countries.

Although they changed their music color, the response hasn't changed. Even their agency didn't expect this kind of response. A TS Entertainment rep stated, "Before B.A.P was able to appeal to the audience with a very specific music personality, and we anticipated they would be able to affect overseas fans as well with their new concept. However, they received a higher than anticipated response, and we saw that their attempt to appeal to the Korean music market had a considerable effect in the global market. It was very encouraging."

Continued Support from Girl Fans

Even though B.A.P has changed their tactics, they've managed to maintain their energetic charm, which was effective in maintaining their core teen fans. Each album they've released since last year has ranked number 1 on Hanteo charts, but this time they've ranked number 1 on daily and weekly charts as well. They even rose to the top of real-time charts on the 16th. They also ranked number 1 on Gaon Charts' album charts and social charts. It's proof that teen fans are working their magic.

B.A.P hasn't neglected their fans. After they won number 1 on music programs on the 14th and the 16th, they held fan signing events right after the show.

Their activities will now be focused on their concert. Their solo 'B.A.P Live On Earth Seoul 2014' concert will be held on March 8th and 9th, where the group plans to perform new songs from their album.

A TS Entertainment rep stated, "Their activities will extend into March. We expect their concert to sell out, too. Since they are receiving such great responses from the public, the group and the agency family are all putting forth their best efforts into their activities."
