NBA Trade Rumors; Greg Monroe To OKC Thunder? Young Center Is The Key To Give Kevin Durant A Championship

The NBA Trade Rumors are on fever pitch, and it is time for the teams to face some facts about this season and beyond. The Detroit Pistons need a long hard look, and OKC may be the beneficiary.

A trade that was proposed in SI NBA involved the Oklahoma City Thunder and Detroit Pistons. These two teams are very different. OKC has been overachieving, standing all the way at the top of the NBA despite losing superstars to trade (James Harden) and injury (Russell Westbrook, though he'll be back). On the other hand, the Detroit Pistons are a team that took major strides last summer to finally make a splash following a long period of mediocrity. Yet, they are still on the outside looking in.

The proposed trade, from SI.com:

"Thunder acquire: Greg Monroe, Rodney Stuckey, and Kyle Singler
Pistons acquire: Jeremy Lamb, Steven Adams, Perry Jones, Kendrick Perkins, and an unprotected 2015 first round pick."

The rationale is that the Pistons are due to give big extensions to both Greg Monroe and star center Andre Drummond. Their rookie contracts will expire two years apart, and Detroit can't give them both maximum contracts because of the Josh Smith signing.

Joe Dumars has made it clear that Drummond is their centerpiece for the future, but Monroe's agent will push for the maximum for his ward.  The Pistons would run out of options.

The main return for Monroe in this deal is Jeremy Lamb, who boasts of a 52% FG rate. From Welcome To Loud City:

"That's ninth in the league among guys that take more than three catch-and-shoot attempts per game, and play less than 25 minutes per game. You know, the spot-up shooter guys. People look at this in a negative light sometimes - like, just anybody can stand and shoot when set up with the ball.

It's not always that easy, though. Yes, on paper, it sounds easy, but it takes a special kind of player to be able to come off the bench and answer the call when needed. Then, on top of that, they need to find ways to impact the game in other ways as well. Lamb has done all of that, and it's one of the reasons why continues to be an X factor for the team heading into the postseason."

Among the other players the Pistons would get, Steven Adams and Kendrick Perkins have little offensive range, and Perkins in particular is 'dead weight'-- a great amount of dead weight. Perry Jones was an outstanding high school player but has underwhelmed since.

It's a lopsided trade, according to Pistons fans. It will make OKC a perennial contender (they are now, but they'll be better) or even champions.  Detroit must look for something better.
