White Collar Season 6 Renewal Still Unconfirmed! Delay In Decision Causes Writers To Flee; Will This Result In Cancellation?

"White Collar" season 5 has aired its season finale last January 30, earning solid ratings and great critical reviews. The last episode featured a cliff hanger wherein Neal Caffrey (played by Matt Bonner) was kidnapped and thrown in a van. Fans were definitely left hanging when it comes to Neal’s fate. However, it might take some time before they get to see further development as USA Network remains mum about the show’s renewal for sixth season.

According to Deadline, White Collar Season 6 talks are currently stalled. The entertainment website wrote:

"By this time, USA Network series White Collar would normally be deeply in preproduction, getting ready to start filming in March. But not this year. It’s already mid-February, and there is still no decision on the future of the buddy crime drama whose most recent fifth season ended two weeks ago. I hear there has been some communication between USA and White Collar producer Fox TV Studios but no meaningful dialogue so far. Given the way Season 5 ended — with a cliffhanger involving the abduction of Neal Caffrey (Matt Bomer) — it is safe to assume that there will be some sort of continuation, likely a conclusion for the series. The question is what that sixth and final installment will be."

While White Collar Season 6 is currently not a possibility, there might have a miniseries according to Nellie Andreeva.

"I hear the network has been mulling a short miniseries to wrap the story in the vein of Showtime’s The Big C, while the studio would prefer a traditional final season," Andreeva said.

Creatively, White Collar Season 5 made a major leap from its fourth. Writers did a good job with the script and scenes. However, if the show will be renewed for a sixth season, they might lost that creativity. Andreeva said that some of the show’s resident writers have moved already moved out because of the delay of works.

“I hear White Collar lost its writing staff who have moved on to other projects. Additionally, the series no longer has access to New York-based crew members who have been booked for pilots, so production on another installment can start in April at the earliest when broadcast pilots wrap,” she wrote.
