House of Cards Kevin Spacey Hints His Show Is Not Far From Reality; CNN Thinks The Netflix Series Is ‘Extremely Skewed’

House of Cards Season 2 started and ended on February 14. The political drama, which stars Kevin Spacey as Frank Underwood, the manipulative Democrat from South Carolina's 5th Congressional District, has caused a lot of buzz around the world. The second season's reviews were generally positive.

David Zurawik of The Baltimore Sun wrote that the season starts off with a bang: "The first hour of Season 2 is better than anything in Season 1" and at one point it is "going to knock some fans out of their seats."

Rotten Tomatoes also gave the show an 8.5 rating with 26 out of 30 critics responding favorably.

The drama is definitely a hit among movie critics. It is also big inside the White House with Pres. Barack Obama a self-confessed fan of House of Cards. This makes people ask, is the administration affected with the plot of the show? Is that what's really happening in the real world?

Well, here's what House of Cards' Kevin Spacey think about it.

Talking to George Stephanopoulos of ABC's This Week, the actor said that the show is not far from reality.

"We can get done shooting on a day, and I'll come home and turn on the news and I'll think, 'You know, our storylines are not that crazy. They're really not.'"

That's a scary thought, not to mention the fact that Obama back in December told Netflix that he "wishes things were that ruthlessly efficient." He also admires Frank Underwood because "man, this guy is getting a lot of stuff done.'"

CNN has a different take about the realness of House of Cards. Contributor Julian Zelizer said that

"the portrait of politics that "House of Cards" provides viewers is extremely skewed, a vision so devious and so cynical that it neglects the great things that our democratic process and our leaders have produced over time."

In the end, Zelizer, who is also a Professor of History and Public Affairs, wrote:

So although "House of Cards" is a great show, viewers need to remember that politics is much more than that. We have become so cynical in this day and age that we can no longer see what is good about our democratic system.
