NBA Free Agents 2014: Carmelo Anthony, Miami Heat To Form Big 4? Frustrated Superstar Losing Hope With The Knicks!

After the trade deadline, the talk focuses on summer, when the NBA 2014 Free Agents take control of the NBA. These are some of the NBA's best and most powerful players, headed by the draft class of 2003.

The Class of 2003 is notorious for the players' clout and not just its talent. The foremost members are the Miami Heat's Big Three. By all intents and purposes, they are a big success story, winning two straight championships. They have left an odd man out, and that's Carmelo Anthony.

The disgruntled superstar is losing hope with the New York Knicks, as the situation continues to worsen with the new Raymond Felton issue. His individual effort has been outstanding. From CBS: "Anthony has topped 40 a remarkable three times in his last four games, scoring "just" 35 points on his down night He is averaging 27.2 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists while playing 38.9 minutes per game in 51 appearances."

Their record in that stretch? 1-3.

When a star player scores 44 points and the team still loses, it is difficult to be optimistic, to say the least. Losing to non-playoff teams who are tanking like the Orlando Magic is also painful. The playoffs are slowly drifting out of his reach.

From USA Today: "It's starting to get tough to handle. It's definitely testing me. The frustration has definitely sunk in, just from the simple fact we're losing games the same way over and over and we're just not learning from that."

Which brings up the drastic measure everyone imagined but never thought possible: A reunion of the best of 2003's draft class-Carmelo Anthony to sign with Miami, joining James, Wade and Bosh!

Is it even possible? Basketball Insiders already tinkered with the numbers: "The Miami HEAT have just $2.038 million in guaranteed contracts next summer. All three of Miami's major stars can opt out and create massive flexibility for Miami, not only in re-setting the luxury tax clock for the HEAT to continue their run at championships, but making it possible for Miami to make a run at Anthony. Depending on what each is willing to re-sign for, the HEAT could have anywhere between $57 and $60 million to work with in free agency."

The logic is simple: Leaving New York means Carmelo Anthony will have to take less than the maximum contract. He needs to take less to join an injured Rose and Joakim Noah with the Bulls. He needs to take less to join a 35 year old Kobe Bryant and an unnamed cast with the Lakers. He will also take less to join Howard and Harden in Houston. None of these three teams can guarantee Melo a championship the way a Miami Heat "Big 4" can.
