YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk Dismisses Speculation Actress Choi Ji Woo Was Signed Due To Expansion Plans

On Wednesday, YG Entertainment co-founder and CEO Yang Hyun Suk confirmed that the record label and talent agency had signed actress Choi Ji Woo, best known for her roles on the TV dramas "Winter Sonata," "Beautiful Days" and "Stairway To Heaven."

"Choi did join YG," Yang told the Korean publication the Star. "We wanted to make the announcement at the right time, but as it is unveiled already, there is no need to hide the fact."

Yet he brushed off media speculation that Choi was added to the YG roster as part of a plan to expand the company's already dominant hold of the South Korean entertainment scene.

"It's not YG's intention to expand the company," Yang said. "Just like we prioritize our musical performers, we want to prioritize our actors to enhance the content of Korean entertainment."

And YG doesn't plan on stopping with just actors and musicians.

"It is our plan to have the managers of actors join YG as well," Yang said.

"YG has avoided representing actors until now. But from now on, the actors who sign with us will enjoy the benefits of the success we've been having overseas."

"Just as we did with the musicians on our label, we will work together under the name YG Family with actors as well," he added. "I am eager to work with great actors."

The K-pop music mogul also dismissed the idea the label would only be dealing with superstar talent.

"With [actor Cha Seung Won] and Choi signing with us, people think we are only into inviting top stars," he said.

"But people who really know me would know that's not true. The reason YG is getting into actor management is to create a synergy effect with actors who we want to work with, just like YG musicians."
