2NE1 Sets New Record And Ranks Number 61 On U.S. Billboard 200 Chart

Group 2NE1 has created a new record and has ranked the highest for a K-Pop group on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart.

On March 5, Billboard stated, "2NE1 has held a new record in that their new song, 'CRUSH', has ranked at number 61 on the 'Billboard 200' chart. Their other title song, 'COME BACK HOME' was also ranked number 5 on the 'World Digital Songs' chart as well."

They also added that Girls' Generation's new album, Mr.Mr., was also seen on the 'Billboard 200' at number 110.

Previously, Psy had held the record at number 2 on the 'Billboad HOT 100' for a Korean artist, for his global phenomenon single, "Gangnam Style." 2NE1 is now holding the record on the 'Billboard 200' chart at number 61 for a Korean album as well.

Big Bang's "Alive" album in the past had also climbed in the 150th spot on Billboard 200 chart in the past. However, 2NE1's album sales record of 5,000 copies was accomplished only in 4 days, which makes it that much more meaningful.

This makes 2 artists from YG Entertainment on 2 of the main Billboard charts, causing much attention from all over the world.

Although selling a few thousand copies may not sound all that much, the recent, dramatic decrease in album sales in the American market dictate most albums out of the top 50 spots to be sold only several thousands of copies. The recent change in Billboard's method in calculating the sales also helped K-Pop groups such as Girls' Generation and 2NE1. Starting from last July, Billboard started to include albums downloaded from the Internet, as well as regular album sales.

The recent popular trend and immense interest in the global market is paving a way for K-Pop to create a permanent place in the world's music industry.
