Fahad Fadel On His Group's Petition To Ban 2NE1's 'MTBD (CL Solo)' For Using Sample Of Quran Verses [EXCLUSIVE]

Thousands of Muslims are outraged with the inclusion of a 14-second sample of hafiz Mohammad Thaha al-Junayd performing a recitation of verses from the Quran in the new 2NE1 single "MTBD (CL Solo)."

An online petition on the website Change.org calling for the song, which CL performs without her three bandmates, was posted two days ago in Saudi Arabia.

Entitled "Delete CL's Song and Apologize to All Muslims," the petition has already received 8,000 signatures.

"It is wrong to put the sound of recitation of the holy book of Muslims in a song," the petition reads. "Maybe you will never understand, but the Quran is a big thing for us! It is our life"

Fahad Fadel, 20, from the city of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, claims to have been one of the people who helped draft the petition, with a group comprised of Muslim K-pop fans from countries including Indonesia, Malaysia and Turkey.

"All of us are K-pop fans and many of us are 2NE1 fans so it hurts us to see this kind of treatment from them," Fadel said.

The group is behind the popular Twitter hashtag #CLIsUsingQuraanInHerSong, which Fadel claims was one of the top trending terms on Twitter in Turkey over the weekend.

Although the petition calls on the 2NE1's record label YG Entertainment to "delete" the song, Fadel, who declined to provide a photograph, claims the group would be satisfied with a new censored version of "MTBD (CL Solo)" being released and an apology from the group or their label.

"We know this was unintentional, so all we want is an official apology," Fadel told KpopStarz in an exclusive interview on Monday.

"What's done is done, so I don't think our demands are exaggerated. In addition, if it is possible we want to see the song edited to replace the aforementioned sample at the one-minute mark, which is taken from a famous recitation of [the Islamic chant] Surat an Na'ba by Mohammad Thaha al-Junayd."

Yet Fadel claims that he and his fellow Muslim K-pop fans will not boycott YG Entertainment, even if their demands are not met.

"We do not plan to boycott YG, as a lot of us are fans of its groups," Fadel said.

"We simply want an admission of the mistake they have made. It might appear to non-Muslims as a trivial thing, but to us the Quran is a book that holds a special place in our hearts."

And though the movement continues to gain steam, the 20-year-old K-pop fan says he isn't comfortable calling his group's efforts towards achieving a "MTBD" ban a fight.

"We are not fighting. We are merely expressing our feelings and opinions about an action made against Muslims, as we see it," Fadel said.

"We do not think 2NE1 made this song just to offend. We liked the song actually. However, what hurt our feelings is the mistake they made."

He says most of the members of the movement to censor "MTBD" understand that it isn't feasible financially for YG Entertainment to pull the song completely.

"An apology is all we seek," he said. "Some fans are demanding the song to be taken down, but as Arabs, we do not see it feasible. After all it is business."

YG Entertainment could not immediately be reached for comment.
