Perrie Edwards’ Mother ‘Upset’ Over Zayn Malik Storyline In ‘Holby City,’ Twitter Fans ‘Disgusted’ With Little Mix And One Direction Death Threats On BBC Show
Perrie Edwards' mother and Little Mix fans are outraged over a recent storyline in the BBC show "Holby City," in which a One Direction fan makes death threats against Perrie Edwards because she wants to "marry" Zayn Malik. Fans took to Twitter to express their "disgust" over the storyline featuring Perrie Edwards and Zayn Malik in "Holby City."
Perrie Edwards' mother, Deborah Edwards, took to Twitter to complain about the BBC show. She posted: "Anyone watching Holby city ??? Really upset.com x"
In the March 11 episode, a Zayn Malik fan is admitted to the hospital after fainting at one of One Direction's signings. She tells nurse Bonnie (Carlyss Peer) about the lengths she would go to for the group, DigitalSpy reports.
Kayleigh, played by Alexa Davies, said in the episode: "I've got it all worked out, all I have to do is track down Perrie Edwards, cut off her head with a rusty chainsaw, marry Zayn and have all his babies."
According to Express, Little Mix fan Emily Harrison posted on Twitter: "Disgusted at what was said on holby city about Perrie so mad #annoyed".
Another fan tweeted: "Complaint sent to @BBCOne about what was said about Perrie in Holby City. Disgusting!"
Another wrote on Twitter: "The worse thing about what was said about Perrie in Holby City is that by an actress saying it is saying that it's OK for others to say it."
BBC said they have received around 70 official complaints but a spokesperson said the storyline was not meant to cause offence, Express reports.
The spokesperson said: "The line referencing Perrie Edwards, as part of the Holby City guest storyline, was made to emphasise the character Kayleigh's devotion to One Direction.
"It was absolutely not intended to be taken seriously and clearly in the context is not intended to cause offence."
A spokesperson for Little Mix did not wish to comment.
Perrie Edwards and Zayn Malik got engaged last August. Perrie Edwards has previously revealed that she often gets death threats and hate mail from One Direction and Zayn Malik fans who are jealous of her relationship.
