Crayon Pop Will Be The Opening Act For Some Of Lady Gaga's artRAVE: The ARTPOP Ball Concerts

K-Pop's recognition in international markets is definitely growing, and Lady Gaga has taken note.

On March 20, Lady Gaga tweeted to over 40 million followers that her opening act for some of June and July will be the bright and addicting K-Pop group, Crayon Pop.

"I'm excited to announce June 26 through July 22 of Lady Gaga's artRAVE: The ARTPOP Ball will be opened by CRAYON POP!" tweeted the singer's official account. The tweet also shared the video to Crayon Pop's song 'Bar Bar Bar.'

Crayon Pop gained a lot of attention last year for their hit 'Bar Bar Bar' and their follow-up Christmas song 'Lonely Christmas.' Their uniquely cute and humerous concepts matched with catchy songs turned them into a sensation, to the point where Crayon Pop performed with Ylvis, the team behind 'What Does The Fox Say?' at last year's MAMA awards.

Although it may seem a bit odd that Lady Gaga, an entertainer known for her outlandish songs and style, would ask a group like Crayon Pop to come on tour with her. But Crayon Pop is a group whose songs will get any crowd jumping, and their style is definitely a bit abnormal itself. It may seem like an odd match, but Crayon Pop also brings the rookie factor to the stage-- If Lady Gaga had asked someone like G-Dragon to go on tour with her, many fans would feel like it is belittling to the leader of Big Bang to ask him to be the opening act. Crayon Pop's fame is on the rise, but it wouldn't upset any fans to see them as an opening act for a globally popular artist.

Even though the initial popularity of Crayon Pop died down a bit after the end of Crayon Pop's 'Bar Bar Bar' promotion period, the group's Christmas song gained a lot of attention. The girl group is set to release a mini-album 'Uh-ee' on April 1st.  There was already a lot of fans anticipating the album, and now the Lady Gaga news will lead to more attention on the girl group's latest project.

While there has been a growing amount of collaborations between Korean artists and Western artists, the most successful ones have been with YG artists, including the recent collaboration between Skrillex, 2NE1's CL, and Big Bang's G-Dragon. This is the first time that a group from a small company has gained enough attention to the degree where Lady Gaga has asked them to be her opening act.

This is the second time that a K-Pop act has been an opening act for a part of a major American artist's concert tour, following in the footsteps of the Wonder Girls who opened up for the Jonas Brothers in 2009. While K-Pop acts have appeared at concerts of major American artists held in Korea and the rest of Asia, this is one of the few instances when a K-Pop group will travel with the artist on tour outside of Asia.

Crayon Pop will tour with Lady Gaga in the United States and Canada. The first show will be on June 26 in Milwaukee, and the last show will be on July 22 in Los Angeles.
