Dasom's gaze is quite extraordinary. We merely saw her as girl group SISTAR's youngest member, but she's changed quite a lot. Her gaze is alive, full of confidence. As a woman who's in her early 20s, she exudes a youthful energy. What could have caused this change?

The biggest change happened with Dasom's activities. She used to be just a singer, but she tried her hand at becoming an actress. She revealed that it was her childhood dream. Even after she debuted with SISTAR her heart often leaned towards acting, and that's how she got started.

She started with her appearance in KBS2 sitcom "Shut Up Family." She greeted the viewers with the chic and charismatic role of Woo Da Yoon, which was impressive enough to have the public wondering, "There was this kind of side to Dasom?" This is the role with which Dasom initiated her 'acting idol' title.

Dasom's next move was quite surprising. She was cast as the female lead of a 150 episode drama called "Melody of Love." She particularly received a great deal of attention because this was only her 2nd role, and she was given such a great part in the drama.

But the public's concern was no matter. Dasom was never the center of an acting controversy, and she fully digested her part as the main role. Dasom was able to fully display the character's emotions throughout her rollercoaster rides. Even the subtle complexities of complicated situations were expressed naturally through her acting. She had absolutely no trouble carrying the drama through its ups and downs.

So how did Dasom achieve this great task?

Success Factor #1: Responsible Greed

"I have a lot of greed. If I'm given a responsibility, I have the tendency to give 100%. This isn't the case with everything, but only with things that I'm able to do, and work that I want to do."

Dasom is greedy. But she doesn't overestimate her limits. If she's given a task she thinks she can do, then she'll use all her skills to create the best result. That's why she was never criticized for being overeager or caught in the middle of an acting controversy. Dasom was confident she would be able to take on the lead role of "Melody of Love," and was able to successfully pull of the role at her audition. She was confident that she was right for the role.

"Acting was my dream. Since I was able to finally do what I love, I really wanted to enjoy it. But everyone kept putting pressure on me, saying things like, 'If you do well in this drama you'll make it big' and 'You need to do exceptionally well because you're the main character.' Of course, I understand that they were saying it to support me. But in the beginning more than enjoying my work I felt a lot of pressure. I would jump up from my sleep to memorize the script, and there were times where I couldn't eat and could only drink grape juice. But I think this pressure has trained me well. Acting is now much more fun than it was in the beginning."

Dasom is leading a very busy life nowadays. She works 7 days a week. She works on her drama 6 days a week, and 1 day of the week she devotes to SISTAR's schedules. Since SISTAR will be coming out with a new album in May, the group is practicing every single day. She can't be lax with her preparation.

"I'll be returning to SISTAR for the group's activities in May, but I'm worried because there's not enough time to practice. I'm already lacking compared to the other members, and so I'm working more diligently. I'm constantly budgeting my eating and sleeping teams. It's hard because there's just so much to do."

For Dasom, 24 hours in a day certainly do not seem like enough. Even though right now she's the busiest she's ever been since her debut, she says she's happy.

"Ever since my birth, I've never been this busy. But I really like it even though it's busy. When I looked at Hyolyn and Bora having a hard time because of their busy schedules, I always wished that even though it's hard I wished I could be just as busy. That's why I'm quite happy nowadays. (Laughter)"

Success Factor #2: Endless Effort

We were curious as to Dasom's secret to acting. Her major is singing, and her acting career is quite short. But how was she able to land the main role of a drama? It's amazing that she was able to stand out so prominently among the myriad of acting idols who pay big money for personal training and more seasoned actors.

"I think they've all looked upon me quite kindly. (Laughter) I've been so embarrassed and ashamed at every monitoring session. Even still if I had to pick a 'secret,' I'd have to say that I'm a movie maniac. I would watch movies over and over again, and I've watched at least 1,000 movies. They say that acting is experience, and that expressing through experience or knowledge of various backgrounds is art. To be honest since I'm young it's hard for me to express myself as well as more seasoned actors. Even still I was able to give my everything because I've had much indirect experience.

Dasom's father is a movie maniac, too. Dasom was influenced by her father's love for movies, and it's been her hobby ever since was little, watching movies. She doesn't just watch them, but she pays close attention to all the details, from the actor's acting to the overall structure of the work. She wasn't lazy about her efforts.

"Now that I think about it, I studied movies. The more I watched movies, the more detailed my obervations would get. I would dig very closely. This disposition has helped me greatly in my singer activities. I think I've gained much insight thanks to such close observations."

Success Factor #3: Correctly Identified Position

Once Dasom started acting, she was able to show off her own color. Before, she was often masked among the other SISTAR members that have strong personalities. Now she not only stands out among fellow SISTAR members, but she's been praised as an acting idol alongside Girls' Generation's Yoona and miss A's Suzy.

"I think I'll have to hold tight onto acting. Hyolyn and Bora are extraordinary in song and dance, and Soyou is the 'goddess of featuring.' Even now I'm still floating around in the group, but I want to position myself well as an actress so that I can be a help to our team as well. I'm determined to give my 100% to my role as a member of the group. That's also why I'm not lazy about practicing despite my busy schedule."

Dasom knows exactly what her responsibility is. She revealed that in order to survive in the entertainment industry, she must do her best in pursuing her love of acting, as well as her group activities, which gave her the much needed confidence.

"I want to be a needed person in the entertainment industry. Just like now. Right now I'm greeting my fans as the actress Dasom, but soon I'll be greeting them as SISTAR's Dasom. Then I'll even get a tan, and show a different side to me. You can look forward to that. (Laughter) I'll do my best, so please show me a lot of love."
