Install Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update On Samsung Galaxy Note; GT-N7000 Units Receive Lightning Custom ROM

The owners of the original version of Samsung Galaxy Note can now install Android 4.4.2 KitKat update.

Samsung Galaxy Note was released in the market back in October 2011. According to GSM Arena, the first Samsung phablet originally runs the Android version 2.3.5 Gingerbread and officially, it is currently upgradeable to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

However, for those who are interested to install Android 4.2.2 KitKat update to experience Google's latest mobile operating system, a custom firmware is available. According to a post on International Business Times, Lightning ROM, which is based on Android 4.2.2 KitKat update is now available for Samsung Galaxy Note.

Particularly, Lightning custom ROM is compatible with Samsung Galaxy Note units bearing the model number GT-N7000.

As posted on Team Android, the Lightning ROM, which is based on the latest Android Open Source Project or AOSP release, brings in "PIE CONTROL, MULTIWINDOW SUPPORT, FLOATING WINDOW and OTA UPDATE support." The post further stated, "Plus this ROM also includes Dolby sound enhancement for audiophiles. This ROM is very much stable, fast and smooth."

Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 users who are interested to install Android 4.4.2 KitKat update using the custom Lightning ROM can do so by simply following the guide provided on this IB Times post. The custom firmware requires ClockWorkMod on the phone to be able install the update, as well as Google Apps zip files.

Below are some general requirements to satisfy to ensure that the Lightning ROM based on Android 4.4.2 Kitkat update will be successfully installed on the device.

Verify the model number of the phablet by going to Settings > About Device > Model Number. Remember, the Lightning ROM based on Android 4.4.2 KitKat update is only compatible to GT-N7000 units of the Samsung Galaxy Note.

The battery level of the Samsung Galaxy Note should be 80 percent or more during the installation process to avoid power interruption issues.

Create a backup of the data stored on the phone by using custom recovery tools such as ClockWorkMod.

Enable USB debugging mode on the device.

Install the appropriate drivers for Samsung Galaxy Note on your PC so the Android device will easily connect to the computer once the installation is about to begin.
