Crayon Pop's Single 'Uh-ee' Is Considered Unsuitable On This Korean Broadcast Network

This Korean broadcast network has a very strict policy before any shows and music videos can be aired around South Korea. Reason for its strict guidelines is because the people who works at this broadcasting station wants to make sure that it does not offend any country and/or people. The name of this broadcasting station is 'KBS.'

Guidelines are provided to agencies who wants something to be aired on this broadcasting station. Reviews are done before the video can be aired. So with this strict guidelines, 'KBS' has put Crayon Pop's new single, "Uh-ee" one that is not considered unsuitable to be aired on the "first review" unless their agency does some modifications before being checked again on the "second review."

What Modifications They Need to Fix?

'Chrome Entertainment', which is the agency for Crayon Pop, needs to modify one part of the lyrics as it is considered inappropriate and could cause a stir with the Japanese people. 'KBS' stated on April 2nd why this part of the lyrics needs to be modified by saying, "Among the lyrics, 'bbikka bbunjjuck' is a Japanese expression."

'Chrome Entertainement's' CEO Hwang Hyun Chang found this out when he explained to news media, 'Star News' on April 3rd. Hwang stated, "We were notified that ['Uh-ee'] was deemed unsuitable for broadcast by KBS so we modified the problem lyrics 'bbikka bbunjjuck' to 'bbunjjuk bbunjjuk' and submitted it for reconsideration."

What The Lyric Really Meant

Before the modifications, "bbikka bbunjjuck" was meant to "refer something sparkly or shiny." Apparently, 'KBS' did not see this as one that the agency saw it because of their strict guidelines. Plus, since the station is "funded" through the Korean government, they highly enforce that the "Korean language" be in the lyrics instead of a "Japanese expression"; hence why 'KBS' quickly told 'Chrome Entertainment' that it did not pass the "first review." Now, the agency has modified the lyrics and resubmitted it again. The agency is now waiting if 'KBS' will air Crayon Pop's single, "Uh-ee" on this broadcasting station as they are doing a "second review." 'Chrome Entertainment' does not have to worry about 'SBS' and 'MBC' because it passed their reviewing board.
