Hyoyeon Rumormongers Will Be Prosecuted Girls' Generation Record Label Reps Claim

Executives at SM Entertainment, the record label of the superstar K-pop girl group Girls' Generation, released a statement on Wednesday, vowing to take legal action against anyone reporting rumors about an incident over the weekend in which band member Hyoyeon was reportedly accused of assaulting a male friend.

The label's statement made it clear, they will not stop with suing the media for libel.

"We plan on firmly handling this situation by beginning the process of pursuing legal action against people publishing or writing baseless rumors about Hyoyeon," the statement read.

"Once again, we request that the people erase the relevant posts in comment sections, personal social networking accounts, blogs and anywhere else these rumors have been posted."

Allkpop reader Farralyana agrees with the label's stringent course of action.

"Good job SM Entertainment," Farralyana wrote in the website's comments section on Thursday. "Protect the girls from the haters who like to spread bad rumors."

Yet the whole incident, where Hyoyeon friend reportedly accused the Girls' Generation singer of hitting him shortly after midnight on Saturday, in the Seoul neighborhood of Seobbinggo, doesn't add up for reader Rindr.

"Why would the friend to the police though?," Rindr asked. "I think something else is going on. The story itself sounds like a pile of BS, but SM did not confirm why or how [it happened]."

The mystery surrounding the incident continues to grow, as both local police from Seoul's Yongsan Police Station and even Hyoyeon's allegedly assaulted friend himself, reportedly said there was no injury caused as a result of the incident.

"The man did not sustain any injury," a police source told South Korea's Yonhap News Agency.

According to Yonhap police, Hyoyeon was not charged with committing a crime.
