K-Pop Girl Groups KARA, Girls’ Generation, Wonder Girls - How Are They Doing?

Is the 1st generation of K-pop girl group in danger? KARA, Girls' Generation, and Wonder Girls debuted in 2007, and the fans are curious to see in what manner the groups will continue their activities in the days to come.

KARA's former member Kang Jiyoung posted on her SNS on the 6th to inform her fans about her London trip. Early on she had given notice of her solo activities to come. Her contract with KARA's agency DSP Media ended on the 5th, and she officially withdrew from the group in order to pursue overseas studies. She took a photo of a handwritten letter titled "To my fans", and posted it to her SNS. She wrote, "I'm going to read a lot, study English, travel, and experience everything I couldn't until now. I don't know when, but I will return when I develop and mature into an adult. Until then, please don't forget me and wait for me."

Following Nicole's withdrawal from the group in January this year, Kang Jiyoung is the second KARA member to leave the group in 2014. There are many speculations as to how KARA will go forth from here. There is a slight possibility of recruiting new members, but it looks like the weight is on the shoulder of the 3 remaining members, Park Gyuri, Han Seungyeon, and Hara. They've already announced their plans for a new album later this year. Will they be able to carry on the reputation of KARA as they did before?

Girls' Generation has come to a new phase, the members have entered their own 'love generation'. Yoona and Sooyoung revealed their respective relationships early on this year, and on the 4th this month Tiffany revealed herself to be in a relationship with 2PM's Nichkhun. Not only that, Hyoyeon was involved in a little incident and unintentionally broke the news of her boyfriend to the public. The fans are applauding the members' confident announcement of their love lives, but others are concerned. And the attention is once again being focused on whether their romantic relationships will be beneficial or hurtful to their entertainment activities.

Wonder Girls has put a halt to their activities after their leader Sun got married in January last year. Not only that, she made an announcement that she'll be leaving on a five-year missionary trip to Haiti with her husband. Many are commenting that this probably means that Wonder Girls activities are indefinitely ceased. In addition to Sun, Sohee let her exclusive contract with JYP Entertainment expire in order to pursue her acting. There's no saying what will happen to Wonder Girls in the days to come.

It looks like these K-Pop girl groups have an uncertain future because of romance, marriage, academics, and acting. What will happen to these girl groups?
