Psy's Next Leading Lady? After School Nana Wants To Go Global With The 'Gangnam Style' Star

After School member Nana recently revealed that she would gladly appear in one of Psy's music videos if he asked her.

During her appearance on the latest episode of Mnet's celebrity talk show Dirty Talk, Nana had some surprising things to say about two of the Korean entertainment industry's biggest names.

"Who do you think is more amazing - the head of Korean entertainment culture, Seo Taiji, or world star, Psy?" she was asked.

Nana replied, "Honestly, I don't know Seo Taiji very well. I grew up watching Psy."

Her response was not very surprising considering Seo Taiji and Boys, the icon's legendary boy band made up of YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyun Suk, Lee Juno, and himself, debuted in 1992 and had disbanded by 1996 when Nana was only five-years-old.

Even though Seo Taiji is often regarded as the founder of the modern K-Pop genre, kick-starting the popularity of young pop singers in Korea and igniting the craze that would eventually turn into one of the country's biggest industries, he is less popular among today's teenagers who are the biggest consumers of K-Pop nowadays.

Psy, the international K-Pop sensation who gave the world "Gangnam Style" in 2012, is often credited with the expansion of the Hallyu Wave in the world today. Although only six years Seo Taiji's junior, he has experienced a steady career since his debut in 1999 and is regarded as the most famous Korean entertainer in the world.

And the timeline puts Psy at just about the right moment to have been a influence to the After School singer.

So, when Dirty Talk MC Kim Gu Ra asked the young pop star whose music video she would rather appear in, the audience was not entirely shocked by her response. "I would choose Psy," Nana explained without hesitation. "It would be a hot topic all over the world. I want to go out into the world."

There is significant evidence to back up her claim. HyunA, a member of girl group 4Minute was featured in Psy's "Gangnam Style" music video and has seen a significant increase in her popularity outside of Korea. Last month had the opportunity to perform at the prestigious SXSW festival in the United States and has been featured alongside Rita Ora in a hilarious video short for the comedy website Funny or Die.

So while the common sense answer was simple enough for Nana, as another panelist on the program pointed out, "if it were not for Seo Taiji, there wouldn't even be a Psy."
