'Ghostbusters 3' Update: Ghostbusters director confirms Ghostbusters 3 is finally in the works.

As friends and fans remember Harold Ramis, the influential director of classic comic films, a month after his dead, the movie he's most remembered will continue his legacy. Ghostbusters 3 is moving forward again.

Ivan Reitman backed off the project after the death of his good friend, Harold Ramis, who played Egon in the original Ghostbusters. Reitman is looking at Ghostbusters 3 again and says the "script is really good."

Reitman won't be directing the Ghostbusters sequel. Reitman said "The death of Harold really threw me.He was an old friend and it just seemed to be the appropriate time to pass the torch. Just like it's the appropriate time for the Ghostbusters to pass that torch."

It's been over 20 years since Ghostbusters II hit theaters, A third film has been rumoured for decades, but it appeared to be permanently halted after Harold Ramis' death in February. Ghostbusters starred Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Dan Akroyd.

Dan Aykroyd is expected to officially sign on. Reitman insists he won't be the only actor coming back, "There will be many people from the original cast."
Ivan Reitman confirmed that Bill Murray will not return, but says "We have a great script that doesn't really require much from any of the original Ghostbusters," he explained. "The two that are still interested would be in it, and a few of the other characters."

Ernie Hudson, who played Winston Zeddemore in the first two Ghostbuster movies, says "It's about to happen, Unfortunately, Harold is not with us anymore. But it's going to happen. It's going to be really, really good, which is why it's taken so long."

Hudson says he's gonna call in to Ghostbusters. "Script is really good and we've got a lot of interest from a lot of directors to do it. We're just literally starting the search right now. We got a lot of incoming calls so we're gonna go through it and see." Hudson added "The fans have been waiting very, very patiently."

Reitman told People magazine that he hasn't decided on a director, saying "A lot of directors are throwing their hats in. We're starting the meetings. We're going to do it."

Ivan Reitman produced "National Lampoon's Animal House" which was co-written by Harold Ramis. Reitman directed "Meatballs," "Stripes," "Ghostbusters," "Twins," "Junior," "Dave" and many other popular and influential comedies.
