The Comeback Of JYP Entertainment: After A Hard Two Years, JYP Is Fighting Its Way Back To The Top

JYP has joined the ranks of YG and SM Entertainment by unleashing a media blitz this week which contained mysterious photo teasers and information regarding the reality show for its latest rookie group. After months of relative quiet, JYP Entertainment is fighting back against critics who were ready to dismiss the agency from the coveted top placement in Korean music. From the musical  of success of Park Jin Young to details surrounding I GOT7, the agency made positive headlines.

The highly anticipated return of 2PM will aid JYP in establishing a stronger foothold in the current market. As an established group, the members of 2PM have helped to expand JYP as an acting agency and have proven to be effective as reality program participants. Most importantly, the maturity of 2PM allows the group to appeal to a wider audience base with songs like the 2013 release A.D.T.O.Y reaching the youth and adult markets. On April 12, 2PM will perform at the LA K-Pop Festival after an extended absence from the U.S. market. The performance is a symbolic one for JYP Entertainment, which closed its U.S. office that was opened in 2007. While other artists have performed extensively abroad, JYP has been markedly conservative in recent years.

2AM, who were once viewed as counterparts to 2PM, will now be managed by JYP Entertainment. Previously, management rights were shared by Big Hit Entertainment. The only member who will be remaining with Big Hit Entertainment, due to previously designated activities, will be Changmin. While this move may be disconcerting to fans, it is a wise decision. As SM and YG Entertainment have continued aggressive expansion into the modeling and acting market, JYP has remained subdued in its acquisitions. With their combined vocal talent, 2AM represents one of the most talented groups in K-Pop. This recent move by JYP establishes clear boundaries regarding the group and its activities.

The second teaser featuring Baek Yerin of 15& for 'Can't Hide It'.

News that 15& would be making a musical return is a sign that JYP has continued to back K-Pop Star season one winner Park Jimin and Star King performer Baek Yerin. Although, Park Jimin was the grand prize recipient of K-Pop Star, she has been overshadowed by second place recipient Lee Hi. 15& has had the opportunity to release two singles, but have yet to release an EP or mini album. This a stark contrast to Lee Hi and season two champions, Akdong Musician. 15& will make their comeback with the song Can't Hide It which will be digitally released on April 13. The duo will also make a stage appearance on K-Pop Star 3.

GOT7 will make debut their reality show I GOT7 on April 22, which will be simultaneously broadcast in Korea on SBS MTV and on Youku Tudou in China. I GOT7 will join the recent influx of idol reality programming, but will feature aspects that are unique to JYP Entertainment. Although, GOT7 debuted in January, the group has already amassed a huge following. GOT7 has over a million subscribers on Facebook, as a fresh group that is poised to lead JYP into a new age.
