‘Comeback’ EXO - Will They Be Able To Outdo Themselves?

The hottest group of 2013 has come back with a new look. Last year they firmly held their place in the music industry as the full 12 member group, and there's interest as to whether they will be able to outdo their "Growl" activities from last year.

On April 15th EXO held a comeback show at the Jamsil Gymnasium in Seoul and entered into full-scale activities with their new mini album title song "Overdose." Just like they did at their debut, EXO will pursue their activities divided into EXO-K and EXO-M. Now that they've already peaked their level of popularity, this comeback is more important than ever. Will EXO be able to meet expectations and demonstrate power that can shake up the music industry once again?

2 Years Into Their Debut - A Look At Their Records So Far

EXO debuted on April 8th, 2012, and have just passed the 2 year mark. This boy group is going into their 3rd year. Their 1st official full length album XOXO was met with an enormous popularity last June, and they established themselves as one of the hottest idol groups out there. Fans followed them wherever they went, and because of their extremely enthusiastic fans, there was a word of caution that followed them wherever they went. The music industry noted that this kind of massive fandom and popularity was 'the first since TVXQ.' Their immensely powerful fandom has become the foundation for the group's growth.

The Birth Of A Million Seller In 12 Years

EXO became the first group in 12 years to become a million seller. Their first official full length album and 1st repackage album sold over 1 million copies - a first since Kim Gun Mo's 7th album and god's 4th album in 2001. Due to illegal downloads the music market was in danger. In 2005 legitimate online music markets emerged. Since then, EXO was the first group to make this kind of record. Not only that, their winter special album Miracles of December, released last December, added to EXO's amazing album sales record, exceeding over 1.5 million units.

"Growl" Long Run - 18 Music Program Trophies

EXO's strength isn't partial to just teen fans, but to those in their 20s and 30s as well. "Growl," once it was released, ranked high on the biggest music site MelOn for 7 consecutive weeks. Right after tits release, it took an all kill across many different music sites. The fact that they stayed at the top for 7 consecutive weeks is indicative that they reached not only fans in their teens, but in their 20s and 30s as well.

THeir music chart long run was apparent even in their music program wins. EXO's "Wolf" and "Growl" won them them the number 1 trophy on 18 different occasions through KBS 2TV's "Music Bank," MBC's "Show! Music Core," SBS' "Inkigayo," cable channel Mnet's "M Countdown," and MBC Music's "Show Champion." When we consider these 5 music programs, they're the group that took home the most number of trophies.

Korean Awards All Kill - Six Main Awards

EXO also took swept the awards ceremony last year in Korea. It all started with the 2013 MelOn Music Awards, and carried on over to the 2013 Mnet Asian Music Awards, 2013 KBS Music Festival, 28th Golden Disk Awards, 23rd High1 Seoul Music Awards, and 3rd Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards. They took home the main award on 6 different awards ceremonies.

Not only that, they were given the Most Popular Group Award in China at the 7th Baidu Awards. They were awarded for being the Best Group at the 6th Music Pungunbang Rookie Awards and the Singer of the Year Award at the Hawaii Festival International Music Awards. Not only that, Billboard noted "Growl" as being one of the year's best K-pop groups.

Now That EXO Returns To 2 Groups, Will They Surpass The Complete EXO?

As if to prove EXO's immense popularity, their new song "Overdose" is already being met with an explosive reaction. Their teaser video was released on the 11th, and in just one day of the teaser being posted, it recorded over 1 million views. As of the 14th the video had over 3.7 million views. It's obvious that there's massive interest in EXO.

"Overdose" is a hip hop and R&B dance song that was produced by The Underdogs, who previously worked with Beyonce, Chris Brown, and Justin Timberlake, as well as Kenzie, who has created many hit songs.

"Growl" had an addictive charm that highlighted EXO's full group dance choreography and recruited more people into their fandom. What kind of explosive music and performance will they showcase this time around?

The "Overdose" teaser showed an intense chorus and an upgraded image to the group. The song is dreamy and mysterious. If in "Wolf" and "Growl" EXO showed off their boyish charm through their school uniforms, they're showing a more matured image with this new concept.

It's definitely eye-catching that EXO will be active in their divided groups EXO-K and EXO-M for this comeback. They will be pursuing activities in Korea and China, respectively. EXO's been mind-boggling popular as a 12 member group, and music fans are greatly expectant to how they will carry out their activities in these 2 groups.
