International EXO Fans React To The 'Overdose' MV Being Delayed Due To National Tragedy

Some EXO fans are having a furious debate over the delay of 'Overdose's promotions and music video release.

The tragic Korean ferry accident that left over 200 people missing led to the Korean entertainment industry shutting down in respect, with many television programs and even movie premiers cancelled. Numerous idols took to SNS and shared their prayers, cancelling performances and comebacks.

But some international fans don't really understand why their favorite idols aren't making a comeback. EXO's fans in particular, known for their fervor, have been having a heated debate about the delayed release of EXO's new 'Overdose' music video.

Both SMTown's official Facebook page and the Korean teaser of 'Overdose' have become the forums for harsh arguments between fans. Many fans support SM Entertainment's decision to delay the promotions during a time of mourning in South Korea, but there are also many vocal ones who demand that SM Entertainment pay attention equally to international fans as well as South Korean ones.

Some fans are merely uninformed and confused about why the music video hasn't been released. EXO's fans have been known for their overwhelming loyalty to the group, so it is understandable why fans are upset.

The Korean teaser of 'Overdose' has over 4 million views, far more than many K-Pop songs, and many fans are merely anticipating the release of the music video. The majority of EXO's fans are very young and they may not understand the extent of the tragedy in Korea.

EXO's fans have been heavily criticized for their passion, but it is unfair to blame all of the fans. A quick look at comments on the official Facebook and YouTube pages show that many fans respect SM Entertainment's decision. These fans understand that EXO is a South Korean act that is in mourning with the rest of its nation, and many of these fans are trying to correct the attitude of fans who show a complete disregard for the South Korean national tragedy.

There are many EXO fans showing disgust at the insensitive fans who are showing disregard to South Korea's tragedy.

There is no problem with being passionate fans; idol groups thrive on their fanbases. However, when unfortunate events happen and an entire country is in mourning, international fans need to understand the culture of South Korea.

Korea is a relatively unified country, where Koreans feel deep bonds to their fellow countrymen. Although EXO's members may have no connection to the accident, it would still inappropriate for them to release their music video while the rest of the country is in mourning.

Those fans who demand that SM Entertainment, and other Korean entertainment companies, ignore its country's tragedy simply to release a music video are in the wrong and should recognize that hundreds of lives have been lost.

There is no new release date announced for 'Overdose,' despite the call by many fans for the immediate release. However, there are videos circulating from EXO's showcase.
