Entertainment Industry In Mourning, ‘Sorry That All We Can Do Is Pray’

The capsized ferry tragedy that occurred on the 16th has left the nation of South Korea in a time of deep mourning. All public entertainment schedules have been put to a halt, and many celebrities are expressing their mourning through different avenues. However, their prayers are all the same - that the missing will return safely.

Shim Eun Kyung posted on her Twitter on the 17th, "My heart is aching so much that I can't get work on anything. Our young friends. How scary and painful it must have been. I offer my deep condolences. I'm sorry. There's nothing I can do but just pray like this." She apologized for not being able to do anything but pray.

Jo Nam Joon posted that same day, "You good fools, you good kids who always did as you were told. You who stayed put when you were told to stay put, you who waited when you were told to wait, who made your pretty kids this way?"

On the day of the accident, Song Seung Hun posted on Twitter, "I'm prayerfully watching, and I feel sick to my heart. My deepest condolences go out to those missing... And I eagerly pray that they would be safe."

Jang Seo Hee posted on Weibo on the 17th, "I just heard the news of Sewol-ho in China, and I'm very heartbroken. I pray with a pleading heart." That same day, Chun Jung Myung said, "To the skies, we plead that you would help out the rescue team. I'm only hearing about the accident through the news, and it's a disaster like a bolt out of the blue," and also blamed the weather.

Kim Chang Ryul said on SBS Radio Power FM's "Kim Chang Ryul's Old School", "When I see the broadcasts, they conduct interviews with the victims' families, but I really wish they couldn't do that," and let out a big sigh.

Besides these celebrities, singers G-Dragon, SISTAR, Hyolyn, 2PM members, actors Lee Jong Hyuk, Lee Min Ho, Lee Chung Ah, and many other stars expressed their condolences through SNS regarding the disaster.

And these expressions of grief weren't just limited to celebrities. Dodgers' pitcher Ryu Hyun Jin posted a photo on LA Dodgers' official Twitter that showed the words "SEWOL 4.16.14" written above his locker. He said, "I really hope everyone could return safely to the arms of their families... Everyone take heart. Remembering the SEWOL disaster."

International celebrities also shared their condolences. British singer Mika said, "Watching a report on the S Korea ferry sinking. My heart goes out to all those people waiting for unaccounted relatives. Deeply sad to watch."

Dutch singer Wouter Hamel said, "Terrible news from Korea. I can't imagine what their families must be going through. It's a nightmare," and shared the sorrow.

Belgian singer Sioen said, "I heard the terrible news about the South Korean Ferry. So sad. My sympathy to all families and other involved. Big Hug."

And still there are others that are directly serving by physically lending a helping hand. Comedian Kim Jung Goo posted a photo of his diving certification on the 18th and revealed that he was heading over to Jindo. Super Junior's Lee Teuk's older sister actress Park In Young said, "I'm heading over to Jindo with the Salvation Army public relations manager, 2 friends, and my 2 managers."
