Korean Celebs Help Out In The Sewol Ferry Disaster Relief Efforts

In the wake of a national tragedy, it is not at all uncommon to see citizens from all walks of life coming together for the greater good. With the recent Sewol Ferry tragedy, the entire nation of South Korea has been stricken with grief and many are doing what they can to help.

Among the volunteers and donators are some of the nation's best known stars and celebrities.

After widespread cancellation of TV programs, concerts, and scheduled appearances, Korea's biggest names are lending a hand as the search and rescue efforts continue to locate the hundreds still missing from the capsized ferry.

At the disaster site, many famous faces appeared to lend a hand.

Actor Jung Dong Nam and comedian Kim Jung Goo were among the first celebrities to arrive on the scene. Both have extensive training in matters such as this with Jung as president of the Korean Rescue Federation and Kim having been an industrial engineer diver.

Other stars like actress Park In Young took some managers with her to help any way they could at the disaster site offering aid and help to those in need and to assist the rescue divers as they battle the fierce waters.

Other celebrities have donated huge sums of money to help fund the ongoing search and rescue efforts.

Celebrity baseball team ZomaZoma donated 10 million won (nearly $10,000 USD) to the relief efforts. According to team captain Shim Hyun Seob, "The members of ZomaZoma have joined their forces and collected 10 million won for the families affected by the Sewol incident."

Actor Song Seung Hun also made a very generous donation through the Salvation Army organization, and donated 100 million won to the rescue operations. The actor, who is currently living abroad, reportedly was so grief-stricken by the news of the disaster, that he personal called the Salvation Army to inquire about how he could help.
