Music Charts on Hold for a Week as Ferry Sinking Devastates Nation

It is especially important to note the halt of music charts in analyzing the current K-Pop scene in the face of the Sewol sinking crisis. After the sinking of the ferry on April 16, music charts have come to a stop, with the TOP 10 songs keeping their respective places on charts for a week. With the delay in comeback and lack of promotions, there have been no changes in music charts.

While Akdong Musician's "200%" and High4 with IU's "Not Spring, Love, or Cherry Blossoms" fight for first, A-PINK's "Mr.Chu", 15&'s "Can't Hide It", and Park Hyo Shin's "Wild Flower" have remained in the TOP 5 spots.

The current lag of the K-Pop scene has taken a toll on consumerism in the music industry. Visitors to music websites have decreased 5-10%, and sales have also gone down. Since there is no release of new albums, music charts have now officially come to a screeching stop.

The phenomenon is projected to affect music charts in May, where heaps of artists are scheduled to make comebacks. Those that pushed back their April comebacks to May have increased competition for those originally scheduled to return in May. Because all artists want to avoid the Brazil World Cup, competition has surged for May comeback artists.

Sources claimed: "Everyone is joining in on the grieving process of the Sewol incident, and some agencies have even pushed back comeback dates to after June, reshooting cover album photos and switching title songs".
