All Of The Music Industry Is At A Halt - What Are They Up To Right Now?

While broadcasting companies are airing dramas normally as planned and movies are being released according to schedule, the entire music industry has seemingly come to a halt. It's expected that at least for the next 2 weeks all activities will not be resumed. Singers are spending their days doing different things.

Usually April and May are chock full of events, but the music world has stopped releasing new songs, and all concerts, events, and even fan signing events have completely come to a halt. The music industry is sharing in the sad sentiment caused by the disaster of the Sewol ferry accident.

Since comeback periods have a very big impact on a singer's activities, adjusting schedules that have already been delayed is the biggest problem right now. That's why during this 'break,' music industry officials will have to think hard about their next steps.

Now that April comebacks have been pushed to May, May is expected to feature the fiercest competition of this year. Some are even discussing pushing comebacks to after the World Cup, in July. So far there are many groups that have postponed their comebacks, and are currently uncertain of when their readjusted comeback dates will be. These groups include EXO, Block B, G.NA, Lena Park, INFINITE, BEAST, Wheesung, Fly to the Sky, T-ARA's Jiyeon, SECRET's Hyosung, Gummy, and VIXX.

Even if music broadcasts were to be resumed, it'll be burdensome to be the first group to make a comeback. This is especially more true for those with exciting dance or sexy concepts. One music rep stated, "It'll most likely be very difficult to make a comeback in the first week. They will also need separate promotion time, so it's expected that we'll probably see comebacks scheduled for the 2nd week."

Even still other agencies are doing checks and handling business that they previously didn't take care of before, even holding meetings to discuss current situations. However, there's not much that can be done. One rep from a major agency commented, "Even while holding meetings we'll cry watching the news. Taking care of any business in the meantime has been close to impossible. Everything has come to a stop."

But the problem isn't just with the comeback schedules. There's also the worry that the new song contents could possibly bring up hurtful memories while the wounds haven't even been healed yet. That's why groups are taking great measures to check and recheck the song content. It's slightly better with lively dance songs, but they need to take extra precaution with sad songs. Usually sad songs will express the situation of losing a loved one, and there's great concern that these songs will be taken offensively because of the sensitive subject matter.

One ballad singer that was originally planning for a comeback in late April or early May is still contemplating whether to go on with the comeback agenda as planned, or if it would be better to just postpone the whole schedule even further. Although the new song lyrics and atmosphere fit well with sorrowful sentiment at the present time, extra precaution has to be taken because the song fits so well. One of the reps for this singer stated, "If it could be of even the smallest consolation it's a good thing, but we're very worried that it will cause unnecessary understanding."

That's why lyrics, music videos, and all other aspects are being carefully analyzed. There are many discussions about any and all scenes that resemble the Sewol incident even in the slightest. As expected, all teams scheduled for a comeback in April or May have already finalized all lyrics and music videos, but because the songs will be released after the tragic ferry incident, they have no choice but to check everything thoroughly. One music rep stated, "We're currently taking apart everything from the music video to the teaser images, but since the contents are stimulating and tragic in nature, there are many modifications that need to be made."
