Twerking And Trot Dancing: Two New Dance Moves That K-Pop Idols Are Bringing To The Industry

The power of technology allows Korean pop idols to see and learn new choreography so that the audience can be kept entertained.

Artists like to be unique, to do things that make them stand out from other groups. The list can be long or short on ways stars differentiate themselves amongst the other groups; it can be by having a unique voice, dance choreography, having charisma, and personality; which the audience can tell just looking at the person that he/she is sociable. This is what entertainment is, to introduce something to the industry that another group has not done yet.

Also, if one idea was done in the past, though got forgotten, K-Pop idols can bring it back to our generation and see if the audience will like it or not. If people are not impressed or fascinated, we tune-out. K-Pop idols think about how to wow the audience each time they make their comeback or debut. Also, how they can get recognized and gain fans. First impressions is important when artists go on stage. Especially, if it is their debut. So, this being all said, here are two new dance moves (old and new); that K-Pop idols are bringing to the Korean Pop industry.

The Return of Trot Dancing

Trot dancing, if you are not familiar with its origin, is connected to an older form of pop music. Trot music originally started in Japan during the late 19th century; with the genre known as enka. The Korean people were fascinated with this type of music and included lyrics of their own during that period. After a while, with the added Korean flare; trot was born.

After this, the Korean people decided to include upbeat tempo and repetitive choreography to it. Catchy, while being fun and energetic, is how Korean people describe trot dancing.

During the past years when Korean trot was just getting known, the type of music genre in which it landed on varied. Trot music can go anywhere on the music genre, slow and fast tempo, jazz to R&B; trot music is unique.

The known trot idols in the past who wants to bring it back to the generation of today are Tae Jin Ah, Seol Woon Do, Shim Shin, and Kim Sung Soo. There is a show on Mnet that is titled, 'Trot X,' which is a trot variety show. The show is currently airing. The producers are Tae Jin Ah, Seol Woon Do, new trot singers Hong Jin Young and Park Hyun Bin, and the rest of the singers who are Park Myung Soo, Yoo Se Yoon, and Ivy.

Current Singers Are Bringing Back Trot Music

The K-Pop idols of today are bringing back the trot as singers are singing and doing collaborations. The idols that has tried trot are Girls' Generation members, Yuri and Sooyoung as they sang, "For Sure," which is the OST for 'Working Mom.' Seohyun did a collaboration with veteran singer, Ju Hyun Mi as they sang, "Jjalajajja."

Other K-Pop idols are Big Bang's Daesung for his single, "Look At Me, Gwi Soo", female group Gangkiz for their single, "MAMA." Jang Yoon Jung and her single, "Omona" (aka "Oh My"), which is considered a fun trot single. Park Hyun Bin's "Shabang Shabang", and the gorgeous Hong Jin Young had the trot for her single, "Love Battery."

Now just recently, the ladies of Crayon Pop have also joined the trot wagon as their full of energy single, "Uh-ee," has a catchy trot feel to it. The girls are showing their young fans regarding how trot was very popular in the early periods. Seniors are now also enjoying how Crayon Pop is blending trot and upbeat for the current young generation of South Korea. The trot in the past meets modern in today's K-Pop generation. The result is that it is looking good as fans are enjoying it due to Crayon Pop's "Uh-ee" single.

Twerking; Allowed or Not Allowed and Where are Boundaries Set

There is a new dance move that the idols are trying to make known in South Korea. Twerking, which has different ways of calling it as people explain it like rear or hip shaking, might not be tolerated due to the move being provocative. The broadcast stations will definitely look at the choreography before airing it around South Korea because twerking is considered too sexy for the public's eye.

Who Are The Stars That Did Twerking?

The stars who did this style of dancing is Miss A's Min and rookie female group, Wassup. Other than this two idols, no other female group has done twerking in their choreography.

Wassup; "Wa$$up"

Right now, twerking is not yet popular. Though, this is definitely not one to put a blind eye on because even though you do not see it too much on media, this style of dancing is being done in South Korea.

So, what do you think about trot coming back as some of your idols are using it in their choreography? Also, what do you think about twerking? Will K-Pop females include it in their choreography and will Korean media tolerate it?
