Review: Badkiz Show Off Their Attitude On The Debut Single 'Ear Attack' [VIDEO]

After debuting on the record label Zoo Entertainment in late March of 2014 with their single "Ear Attack," Badkiz are already making progress in the fiercely competitive world of K-pop.

In the video for "Ear Attack", Badkiz enter looking like a group of cute, innocent young girls, but as they come closer into the video frame, they have a confident, almost aggressive, tough girl attitude that makes them much more likable.

Badkiz are made up of four vocalists, Monika, BomBom, Yuenji and Eun Joo, and the rapper Jina.

The opening scene of the "Ear Attack" video is set up like a street fight, with the girls taking positions in the center of a circle of onlookers in a graffiti-tagged downtown area, somewhere in Korea.

There are some slightly annoying low pitched robotic voices saying "Badkiz" as we hear the group call the audience to attention, but once the bouncy electronic disco beat drops in, this track is definitely contagious.

The production has a retro dance club-feel similar to that heard on "Gangnam Style," but I can forgive Badkiz for that. Though, I do hope they get a chance to work with some more creative producers.

Monika's voice in the opening verse of "Ear Attack" seems more mature than I expected from her young cheerleader appearance. At 23, she also happens to be the oldest member of the group, and older than many of the K-pop singers making their debut.

Her singing voice sounds sultry and sophisticated, definitely a refreshing change from the high-pitched chirps we hear so often from female singers in K-pop.

The Badkiz singers trade off verses confidently one by one, dancing around in simple blue-and-white sports clothes which further suggest an athletic cheerleader image (not so subtly reinforced by a very noticable referee whistle sample in the background).

Then Jina comes in with her energetic rap lyrics, concluding her verse with a fantastic shout that echoes into the distance as she points her hand to the sky.

As the chorus hook of "ear attack" is yelled in unison, a male actor is given several slaps in the face by each member of the group for harassing and attempting to grope a girl sitting on a park bench.

The chorus finishes with a mock crying sound as if the group were taunting the guys as they cry and run away.

All of the members of the group seem to be incredibly talented dancers, but BomBom's skills stand out to me. She is such a fluid and natural dancer. The singer does some great b-girl battle moves at the end of the routine.

The video for "Ear Attack" is full of playful humor, and the Badkiz group members are obviously having a lot of fun as they simultaneously beat up, taunt, and dance with this group of clueless male jerks.

Seriously, we have some rare specimens here.

As the the video nears the end, Eun Joo is seen staring down the leader of this rowdy bunch of hoodlums and it's obvious that this is the last straw for her.

I am excited to hear more from Badkiz, and I really hope K-pop fans will give them a chance to be heard.
