Stepping Up From Failure, A Wonderful Success Story- BEAST

The last day of 2011 concluded with an extremely unexpected surprise at the KBS Music Awards Festival.

Based on the audience's text votes for ‘Song of the Year’ was neither Girls Generation nor Super Junior. It was none other than BEAST’s ‘Fiction.’

Since their debut 2 years ago, the idol group has gone through some mixed opinions by K-pop music fans. However, despite those times they were able to accumulate more fans that loved and adored them.

Stepping Up From Failure

October 16, 2009 is BEAST's debut date. For BEAST's fan club 'Beauty,' it marks the beginning of their love for them, but for BEAST, it was probably the most memorable day of their lives.

For BEAST to be who they are today they faced many hardships and failures. Yoon Doo Jun, Yang Yo Seop, and Son Dong Woon were all JYP Entertainment trainees who were supposed to debut as 2 PM and 2 AM. Jang Hyun Seung was an YG trainee that was supposed to be part of the group Big Bang but was voted out at the end. Yong Jun Hyung used to be part of a dance group called Xing where he was known as Popping Dragon. Lastly, Lee Ki Kwang used to be a solo singer by the name 'AJ.' However, all of them were faced with failure and defeat. After being discharged from their agencies, a new entertainment called Cube Entertainment took them all in and created BEAST.

An Idol Group That Focuses on Music.

Usually idol groups have certain roles that each member plays. One member sings while another is good at dancing. Fashion, dance, singing, and visuals are all the qualities an idol group should have. Because one member takes one part, it is not necessary for all members to be good at singing or dancing. However, BEAST wanted to be known as a group that does real music. From their debut song 'Bad Girl' to 'Shock,' 'Breath,' 'Fiction' and so on looked like any other Kpop idol group. But with their Single Album song, 'On Rainy Days,' each members solo parts showed off each one of their vocals. This gave impression that although they are an idol group, each member still had their own musical talent as well. This allowed more of the masses to fall in love with BEAST.

Forever Beast

On MBC Every1's 'Weekly Idol' BEAST were chosen as the group with the 'best teamwork' by other idol groups. Idol group members voted for the group they believe has the best team work and may even match the legendary group Shinhwa. Shinhwa is a 6 member group that has been around for 14 years, the longest out of all idol groups.

Cube Entertainment's CEO stated, "These kids have gone through so much hurt, tears and time. Some of them went as far as up to the moment just before their debut and some have lost all hope during this process. I felt that with all of them together they would be able to create great happiness for their fans."

Is it because each one of them has gone through some sort of hardship? On one talk show program they talked about how all members shared the revenue as well as the stardom. This close relationship showed how much of a family they've become and that they will always be one.

Taking the chance and stepping up from failure can be rewarding. BEAST has shown us that failure is not the end and today they continue to spread the wind of K-Pop through their hard-working performances.
