‘Wolverine 3' Plot Spoilers: 'Death Of Wolverine' Written As Hugh Jackman Exit Plan? Recasting Plan Sacked As Logan Will Have Worthy Heroic End?

Hugh Jackman will return for another run as The Wolverine, but he has already hinted that it will be the last.  As we reported before, the "Death of Wolverine" in the comic books will serve as a precursor to the cinematic demise of the mutant they described as 'unkillable.'

Hugh Jackman has accepted that there will come a point when somebody else will play Logan. On an IGN visit to the set of "X-Men: Days of Future Past" Jackman has admitted that it has been explored:

"I'm sure they had the discussion. They didn't mention it to me, obviously! [Laughs] Look, that's inevitable, man. Anyone who thinks they're indispensable in this business is fooling themselves. But I feel unbelievably blessed to have this part. I never thought in a million years I'd get to play him seven times. Every day I walk on the set with the claws and the hair, I thank my lucky stars. I don't take any of it for granted. To think that in a second version we'd have this cast and this director, and you guys don't know the script, but I would say probably the best script of all of them, is pretty amazing. I think that's why I'm still here. I'm sure by the way, that it won't always be my decision to always be here. At some point, someone will close the door on me... "

Fox has explored all storylines and options, and at one time, they were almost sure on following "Old Man Logan" as Jackman hinted at SFX:

"Well, of course we're looking at Old Man Logan, because that may be the only option left at this point! [laughs] We are looking at a lot of different storylines. No one has jumped out. You can tell from my answer that we're still working it out. I'm working with Jim Mangold, which is exciting. Jim came on board The Wolverine after Darren [Aronofsky] left, so he inherited it. And of all the things that Jim can do, one of the great things he does is develop scripts. I'm excited to see what we can come up with, but I haven't signed on signed on. I'm genuinely at that point where unless it's better than the last one I'm not going to do it."

But this will open another option for the iconic character and its actor. They would not recast, instead they would need to say a final farewell to Wolverine.

Fox has been publicly sending out feelers and surveys as to which characters the audience would like to see in a full-length movie. The pieces are falling into place, and "X-Men:Apocalypse" may be the film that will lead out all the remaining 'old' characters who survived "X-Men:Days Of Future Past" out the door-that could probably be just Wolverine.

For Wolverine, the send-off has to be worthy of a two-century old hero. Writer Charles Soule described the comic book series to EW: "He's reflecting on his own life as he's reflecting on his own death. We wanted to have the reader do that at the same time. In each issue, we're focusing on a different aspect, or a different quintessential Wolverine."

The yet untitled Wolverine sequel will be released on March 3, 2017, less than a year from "X-Men: Apocalypse."
