Careful, Now - Idol Groups Begin to Resume Activities

Idol stars are finding themselves in impossible situations as their job to entertain and their desire to mourn with the nation for the Sewol ferry incident is at odds with each other. The Korean people have begun to resume work, and it is only natural that idol stars go back to their jobs as well.

The catch is that their jobs as entertainers force them to levity. How can they dance, sing, and laugh on various entertainment programs in the face of such a tragedy? Let's take an in-depth look at what's really happening with idol groups during this situation.

Most idol groups center their TV and concert appearances around the weekend music programs. Since the weekend music programs have collectively shut down for now, idol groups are finding it hard to schedule different appearances.

International appearances and concerts are not an option, either. It doesn't make sense to divert idol groups' schedules internationally to dodge a mourning national fan base. Such action may cause severe backlash.

The only exception to that rule is to attempt to spread the news about the tragedy on an international appearance. U-KISS communicated their hearts about the ferry incident on a recent visit to Japan's Yahoo Orc Dome by wearing yellow ribbons on their chest.

Many idol groups have effectively shut down, with many management companies giving the idol stars a break. However, they did issue out warnings about how the stars should carry themselves in public.

According to a few of these warnings sent out by various management companies to their own stars and idol groups, the companies told the stars to keep away from drinking in public situations, including clubs and restaurants where they would appear to be celebrating. Any kind of drunken misdemeanors during this time of national tragedy would undoubtedly tarnish their reputations.

Leessang's Gil was arrested for drunk driving on April 23rd, and he had his license suspended. He was also removed from the cast of "Infinite Challenge."

Another memo told the stars to dress down, telling them that wearing fancy clothes and caring too much about appearances may come off as a lackadaisical attitude about the tragedy.

Although such difficulties follow the idol groups, things look to resume to normal around the second or third week of May. This is because the music charts have remained unchanged for the past few weeks.

The stars who have postponed their comeback stages are looking forward to coming back mid- to late May.
