Flavor Flav from the seminal rap group Public Enemy Rap pleaded guilty to misdemeanor domestic violence charges stemming from an incident with his stepson in 2012.

Rapper and reality TV star, Flavor Flav, who's real name is William Drayton, was ordered to complete 12 counseling sessions by August.  Senior District Judge Kathy Hardcastle says the case will be closed if Flavor Flav completes the sessions. If he doesn't, he could face jail time.  

Flavor Flav pleaded guilty to a domestic violence charge in Las Vegas. The 55-year-old rap star was sentenced to counseling and probation.

The Las Vegas Police Department said rapper Flavor Flav, also known as William Jonathan Drayton, Jr., entered the plea Monday, April 14, 2014 in Clark County District Court. The plea deal will allow the rapper to avoid trial in a Las Vegas domestic violence case.

Flavor Flav admitted that he pulled a knife on the son of his longtime girlfriend in 2012. According to the teen's testimony during a preliminary hearing a year ago, Flavor Flav made threats to kill him and chased him into a bedroom. Flavor Flav then stabbed the knife through a door during the argument.

Since the incident, the family has been going through counseling sessions.

According to Tess Driver, spokeswoman for the Clark County, Nevada, district attorney, Las Vegas prosecutors agreed to reduce the charges to two misdemeanors counts. The charges included attempted battery with substantial bodily harm and battery constituting domestic violence,
Flavor Flav told the court and the judge: "I love my son and my son loves me too."

William Jonathan Drayton, Jr., AKA Flavor Flav, came to the public attention as a member of the hip-hop group Public Enemy. Flav popularized the role of the hype man and is known for his signature "Yeah boy!" yell. Flav starred on several VH1 reality series, including The Surreal Life, Strange Love, and Flavor of Love.
