Production on "Homeland" season 4 begins in June in South Africa, where showrunner Alex Gansa revealed that Johannesburg will double for Islamabad. Will the "Homeland" season 4 premiere take place in Pakistan? In a spoiler interview, Claire Danes, who plays Carrie in "Homeland" season 4, also revealed her character's baby will be a "big theme" in the upcoming season.

"South Africa has a very big tax break," Alex Gansa said when asked why "Homeland" season 4 will be shot in Johannesburg, South Africa, Variety reports.

The city will double for Islamabad, Pakistan. The series will begin production in mid-June and shoot through November of this year.

As we previously reported, the "Homeland" creator revealed that Carrie would be assigned as a CIA officer in Istanbul, Turkey in season 4. But now we're wondering if producers have instead chosen to send Carrie to Islamabad for the premiere, as Showtime revealed that Carrie is being "assigned to one of the most volatile and dangerous CIA stations in the Middle East where she is back on the front lines in the war on terror," Deadline reports.

"We knew going into season four that we would need to move the production overseas to tell the story of Carrie returning to the Middle East as chief of station. We are thrilled to have found a new home in Cape Town and look forward to getting season four production off the ground," Gansa said.

Entertainment Weekly asked Gansa late last year why he chose Istanbul for "Homeland" season 4.

"Only [Turkey's] proximity to Iran. They share a border, and it would be easier to run Javadi from that location. Also I hear it's a fabulous city to go shoot in," he said.

Carrie's pregnancy is likely to play a large role in "Homeland" season 4, both physically and mentally, for Claire Danes' character.

"I think [the child] is going to be a big theme for her emotionally," Danes said. "I think she probably escapes into her job. I think she hurls herself at it as a way to avoid some unresolved, very painful feelings to do with Brody."

As we previously reported, the "Homeland" season 4 premiere date may have been leaked by Google. The air date of episode 1 is coming this fall, but now we may have a specific date. When you type "Homeland" into Google, the search engine shows the air date of season 4, episode 1 as October 12, 2014.
