Music Programs Are Half Resumed - How Are They Different Now?

Televised music programs that had been cancelled following the Sewol tragedy are cautiously making movements towards resuming broadcast. As of now, only half are resuming.

An "M Countdown" rep stated, "Normal broadcasting will resume on the 8th." An MBC rep also said, "‘Show! Music Core' will be resuming broadcast on the 10th if there aren't any emergency newsflash regarding the Sewol Ferry accident."

After the Sewol disaster on April 16th, all music programs came to a halt. That's because they felt it wasn't right to laugh and sing while the nation is in mourning. When other shows started to normalize after the disaster, it was even more difficult for music programs to normalize. Girl groups that focus on sexy concepts or idol groups with their festive stage attire and choreography just didn't go along with the sorrow, despair, and anger the public was feeling.

"M Countdown" was the first to announce their broadcast resuming. An Mnet rep stated, "The resuming live broadcast will be as normal. We will not be putting on a special kind of show to follow the Sewol disaster." 15&, Eddy Kim, NS Yoon G, Eric Nam, Hong Dae Kwang, Mad Clown with Hyolyn, Park Siwan, Sonnet Son, A Pink, Akdong Musician, and EXO-K.

MBC's "Show! Music Core" will be going with a solemn atmosphere for their broadcast on the 10th. CP Park Hyun Suk said, "It's the first broadcast after the accident, and we can't help but take into the account the current atmosphere. Traditional ballad singers will be taking the stage."

KBS2's "Music Bank" won't be coming back this week. CP Kim Ho Sang stated, "The May 9th broadcast has been cancelled, and we'll have to wait and see for next week's broadcast."

SBS' "Inkigayo" is still discussing whether they will resume broadcast on the 11th. PD Kim Ju Hyung said, "We're still discussing the broadcast. We've cancelled the broadcasts for a long time now, and we are preparing just in case we decide to resume. We can't say for sure whether we will resume broadcast on the 11th or not."
