Aaron Hernandez Murder Case Indictment Gives New England Patriots $3.25 Million Cap Space From Their Contract? Former Tight End’s Charge Stems From 2012 Double Killings

Aaron Hernadez's murder case indictment can save the New England Patriots $3.25 million cap space as the former tight end's charge stems from the 2012 double killings.

In August 2012, Aaron Hernandez agreed on a five-year extension with New England for $40 million, which also included $16.4 million in guaranteed money along with a $12.5 million signing bonus.

When Aaron Hernandez was arrested in June 2013 and later charged in connection with the death of Odin Lloyd, the New England Patriots still owed him $6.21 million in guaranteed money, said CBS Sports, which also included the $3.25 million for his signing bonus.

When it was clear that Aaron Hernandez could not play for a while, the New England Patriots refused to pay him money resulting to a complaint filed by the NFL Players Association on his behalf.

With the Aaron Hernandez's murder case indictment, however, that complaint provided the Patriots with "the upper hand," CBS added.

On Thursday, a grand jury indicted the star tight end in relation to the killings of Daniel de Abreu, 29, and Safiro Furtado, 28, both of Dorchester, Mass., who were gunned down in Boston's South End, Washington Post reported.

Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley said, per Washington Post, that Aaron Hernandez "stalked, ambushed and senselessly murdered" the two men without conscience.

"He then carried the deed so lightly on his conscience that he was able to joke about what he did on his summer vacation in interviews with NFL reporters," the Post added.

Aaron Hernandez's murder case indictment came on the heels of another indictment for assault and battery which was handed down by a grand jury in Bristol County following the altercation on February 25 in which no man was seriously injured.

He was also indicted on allegations that he threatened a jailhouse worker back in November.

He will then be arraigned for the charges so he can enter his plea, according to CNN.
