‘Homeland’ Season 4 Spoilers: Mandy Patinkin Talks South Africa Filming Location And Saul In Islamabad

Mandy Patinkin will return to "Homeland" season 4 as Saul Berenson and he recently revealed new spoilers to Access Hollywood about the South Africa filming location for the upcoming season.

"I'm about to go to South Africa for seven months," he told Access Hollywood. "We'll be based in Cape Town...we begin shooting [and it will last] all the way through November."

As we previously reported, South Africa will double for Islamabad, Pakistan, showrunner Alex Gansa revealed.

"South Africa has a very big tax break," Alex Gansa said when asked about the new "Homeland" season 4 filming location, Variety reports.

While "Homeland" fans eagerly await spoilers for season 4, Mandy Patinkin likes being kept out of the loop.

"I specifically ask the writers to not tell me what's going to happen because my attitude is... I don't know what's gonna happen in Mandy's life five minutes from now, five seconds from now, why should I know what's gonna happen in Saul Berenson's life?" he explained.

The actor who plays Saul also talked about a surprise waiting for him in South Africa: "I found out I was going to South Africa and everyone I know knows somebody or is in South Africa or has a relative in South Africa, including myself," he explained to Access Hollywood. "I found out that I have a relative on my mother's side that I've never met named Helen Lieberman. So I mentioned this name to somebody and they went, 'Oh my God! She's known as the Mother Theresa of South Africa.'

"When Mandela got out of prison he heard about the work she'd done for people in need, children, elderly people in communities. She was a white Jewish woman who went to prison many times because I gather it was illegal to help people back then and I find out she's my cousin," the actor continued.

"I'm gonna see the world there through her eyes, which will be an extraordinary view of an extraordinary place. I'm sure I'm going to meet extraordinary people and that's just the tip of the iceberg, so I cannot wait. I've been in touch with her."

Meanwhile, Gansa explained how excited the cast and crew are about moving to the new filming location.

"We knew going into season four that we would need to move the production overseas to tell the story of Carrie returning to the Middle East as chief of station. We are thrilled to have found a new home in Cape Town and look forward to getting season four production off the ground," Gansa said.

"Homeland" season 4 premiere is expected to air fall 2014.
