K-Drama Inspired Date Ideas

Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of Summer in the United States. The holiday signals the end of school for many students and the beginning of Summer vacation activities. When the weather heats up and the flowers begin to blossom, it is the perfect time for romance. While K-Drama may be fraught with many archetypes and tropes, none is better than the elaborately staged date. Whether it is a candlelight dinner on a rooftop or riding tandem on a bike, K-Drama has the best warm weather date ideas

Go for a car ride with the top down like Kim Tan and Cha Eun Sang in "The Heirs.

"The Heirs" is filled with many romantic concepts and date ideas. While Kim Tan (Lee Min Ho) and Cha Eun Sang (Park Shin Hye) are in California, they share a thrilling car ride through the mountains. Driving in a convertible can be an exhilarating experience and one which will amp up the romance on a date.

Become inspired by “Master's Sun” with a rooftop date.

The 2013 fantasy drama “Master's Sun” drew attention from viewers for the incredibly romantic finale. The drama concludes with an elaborate roof top scene in which Tae Gong Shil (Gong Hyo Jin) reunites with Joo Joong Won (So Ji Sub). With great flourish, the couple abandons the angst of their separation. A nighttime rooftop date incorporates the romance of a picnic with the ambiance of dining under the stars.

Take a cue from “A Gentleman's Dignity by walking through a field of summer flowers.

Episode twelve of “A Gentleman's Dignity” features a romantic field scene between Kim Do Jin (Jang Dong Gun) and Seo Yi Soo (Kim Ha Neul). The date sets the tone for their push and pull relationship, with its wonderful atmosphere.

Enjoy the outdoors by going on a camping date.

While K-Drama diehards have mixed feelings about the conclusion of the 2012 Hong Sisters Drama “Big”, there are many examples of cute dates within the program. One particularly adorable scene involves Seo Yoon Jae (Gong Yoo) on a date with Gil Da Ra (Lee Min Jung). “Big” is a fantasy drama which also employs the “female teacher who develops a romantic relationship with her male student” trope.

Take off the pressure of being alone by having an outdoor party like in “Rooftop Prince”.

The fantasy time jump drama “Rooftop Prince” has inspired many K-Drama tropes and remains one of the most hilarious dramas to date. Episode six of “Rooftop Prince” brings Yong Tae Young (Park Yoochun) and his band of Joseon-era brothers together for a mock office party which is led by Hong Bu Yong (Han Ji Min).

Go for a bike ride like "Heartstrings".

In the 2011 MBC drama "Heartstrings", guitarist Lee Shin (Jung Yong Hwa) follows up a confession to Lee Gyu Won (Park Shin Hye) with an adorable tandem bike ride. Although, the characters had ridden on bikes prior to this point, it is the addition of the sweet Dooley cushion on the back of the bike that makes the scene more endearing. Shin also receives points for riding his bike faster which encourages Gyu Won to grasp his waist tightly.

Learn how to drive as in "My Princess".
The experience of learning how to drive can be nerve wracking, but learning from someone you are dating can make an otherwise tedious experience interesting. In the drama "My Princess", Lee Seol (Kim Tae Hee) receives driving instruction from Park Hae Young (Song Seung Hun). Beyond driving lessons, the unlikely pair fall in love through many life lessons in this modern day take on Cinderella.
