Star Trek 3 movie release date will be on the 50th anniversary of the series, but when J.J. Abrams decided to leave the directorial responsibilities for his upcoming "Star Wars Episode 7" film, the team experienced a major setback trying to find the right director to helm the highly-anticipate movie.

In addition, both "Attack the Block" director Joe Cornish and former producer and co-writer Alex Kurtzman are officially out of the project.

However, Star Trek 3 has announced that two newbie writers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will co-write the project with veteran "The Amazing Spiderman 2" Roberto Orci.

The studio seems to be determined in pursuing with the third installment of the sci-fi film, that it has been reported that "The Amazing Spiderman 2" writer Roberto Orci may take over Abram's responsibilities to helm the project. It looks like Orci's campaign for the role paid off, that the executives from Paramount heard his plea.

"After an aggressive lobbying campaign, Roberto Orci has emerged as the clear frontrunner to replace JJ Abrams and direct Paramount's third instalment of the 'Star Trek' series," they reveal. "I'm hearing they're in talks... [and] this would amount to another first-time director taking on a massive project."

Previously, Alex Kurtzman announced that he will be dropping out from the movie due to a number of projects that he's committed to do at the moment. While another writer who co-wrote the script of the Star Trek Into Darkness movie, Damon Lindelof will not be returning as well.

"The duo will join Roberto Orci, who co-wrote the first two installments of the reboot with partner Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof. Orci is working without Kurtzman on this one.

The next Star Trek film is untitled and unscheduled, but Paramount and Skydance are hoping to have a film in time for the franchise to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2016. Stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana are expected to return," according to Hollywood Reporter.

With the new writers and rumored director, this could mean that Star Trek 3 movie is in good hands? Considering the fact that Star Trek Into Darkness was dubbed the worst movie in the sci-fi franchise.
