K-Pop Fashion Trend Report: Sporty

Needless to say, sport attires created for the sole reason of sports may originally emphasize most on functionality. Yet nowadays one can easily question its purpose.

Fashion has quickly made its place in the world of sports. Clothes no longer function just for its originally intended purpose. It is beautified, stylistically challenged and revolutionized. Now one is often bombarded with stylish and chic advertisements of sport ensemble, be it track attires, tennis outfits or swimsuits. Then, one will question oneself, “how often do these actually aid or enhance one’s sport experience?”

For one, many may know about the importance of a good (not to say exorbitantly priced) swimsuit like that of swimming legend Michael Phelps’ Speedo few years back which enabled an excellent streamlined body shape and was scientifically proven to enhance his performances.

This we can agree that sporting attires can make significant improvements in what they are supposed to serve – sports. But of course, truly useful or not, it becomes almost pertinent to spice these attires up and render them a fashionable edge for many reasons. Sport attires are quickly made fashionable, and many of such chic sport concepts have crept their way into K-Pop concepts for both genders.

Sporty concepts are considered pretty fresh, as they have not yet been used enough times to bore the demanding K-Pop audience. Also, it renders a very healthy and positive look and vibe that not only will get sport enthusiasts, but everyone else excited about.

Some sporty concepts include Megagroup Girls’ Generation’s “Oh!”

Surely, the insanely popular K-Pop group makes up a team of beautiful cheerleaders who are perhaps the most desirable girlfriends for any male fans of K-Pop. Be it matching shorts and mid-driff tops, or the occasional variation of cheerleading skirts, GG rocks them like no other. Although its for certain that GG is no longer the youngest girl group around, this fresh and cheerful sporty fashion concept works amazing with the ever strong and energetic girls of GG who can certainly show the younger K-Pop girlies who’s boss and who can truly make them “feel the heat”.

A Pink, "Mr Chu"

One of the most recent sporty look is sported on another girl group quickly gaining prominence in the K-Pop scene – A Pink.

The girls from CUBE are seen to be donned fully in white, highly fashioned-up tennis attire. Also, the MV is set in a hot pink colored floor tennis court (minus the tennis action) that adds to the whole girly style. The wholly white-ensemble is pleasing to the eye, and certainly brings out, or rather stays true to that pure and youthful image of A Pink that has been with them since the group’s inception.

The group which was able to beat K-Pop queens GG’s popularity in Japan -KARA- was also spotted in their sporty looks with popular song (or rather dance), “Mister”. The abs exposing cropped shirts and hip-hop pants puts together a very well improvised sporty concept which also complemented their “butt” dance. This also brings into mind the time that was easily one of the highlights in Kara’s bright career – amidst their not-so-great current situation of finding new members to replace 2 older members who have left the group for individual pursuits, something -no doubt- many fans will find hard to accept.

And of course, last but not least - given the wake of World Cup 2014 coming just next month, we will definitely soon be seeing a whole bunch of K-Pop Idols donned in flaming red jerseys and sport attires. (Red being a national colour for S. Korea, of course). Excited yet?

Surely, the whole idea of the World Cup will be quickly exploited to send a whole chain of fashion events going on in Korea also as a part to cheer on their national team. Be it soccer jerseys or cheerleader outfits, the K-Pop idols are surely going to provide great eye-candies with all their sporty and adorable fashion looks.
