Usain Bolt Outrun by Korean Robot Raptor: Mph Top Speed Record [VIDEO]

Usain Bolt has been outrun... by a robot! At the next Olympics, the judges should keep their eyes open for any robot-looking competitors up for the 100m sprint. Researchers at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) have released a video of a sprinting robot, showing its abilities to run as fast as 28.5 mph, which breaks Usain Bolt's top speed record of 27.44 mph.

For now though, the robot can only function when attached to a rail so it won't be disguising itself for an Olympic appearance any time soon.

Watch the Robot Raptor video on Youtube here:

The robotics researchers was inspired by the Velociraptor, a two-legged carnivores that appeared in the kitchen scene in Jurassic Park. It runs on two legs, which are carbon-fibre prosthetic blades that could have been borrowed from Oscar Pistorius (he's too busy with the murder trial to run anyway).

Boston Dynamics' Cheetah is technically still the fastest robot with its record speed being 29.3 mph, but Korean Robot Raptor is much sleeker and lightweight. If you watch the video, it also shows the Robot Raptor maintaining its speed while jumping over obstacles that are about 4 inches high. Not sure that humans can do that. The researchers at KAIST are continuing to develop the running fiend so it's only a matter of time that it breaks its own top speed record.

Korean Robot Raptor has a spinning rod that keeps it balanced. According to the scientist, it works as a tail that (used to) keep Velociraptors from falling over.

Maybe we should be more worried that these robots can outrun the fastest human. Once these robots get off the rails, running for our lives won't even help. Do you think robots will take over the world? Please let me know in the comments below!
