‘Ant Man’ Movie Director Is Peyton Reed! Former Credits Include 'Yes Man' And 'Bring It On'; Michael Douglas Airs Disappointment Over Wright Departure

After two weeks full of cliffhanging drama enough to make its own movie, "Ant Man" now has a director. Peyton Reed, a comedy director whose last full length feature was a full six years ago-was named the official replacement to Edgar Wright.

Entertainment Weekly has the report:

"Peyton Reed (The Break-UpBring It On) will take over the action-adventure about a hero who can shrink to tiny sizes while still packing a massive punch. Adam McKay, the director best known for theAnchorman movies, was among those rumored to be taking the helm of Ant-Man, but the studio revealed today he will instead rewrite the script by Wright and Joe Cornish (Attack the Block.)

Action films are also a new venture for Reed, who has been exclusively a comedy director, his last one released six years ago: Jim Carrey's Yes Man."

Marvel did not too many options left. The film's release date falls on July 17, 2015 and Marvel has not made any announcement to change that. He also has the daunting task of taking a project so closely associated with its former helmsman-one fact that drove away the other candidates.

Marvel would like to remind us that the movie has a plot:  "Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world."

So it's still a comedy heist movie that was really up Wright's alley, and not even close to "Yes Man," or "The Break Up" or "Bring It On."

Michael Douglas, who plays Hank Pym pretty much sums up the feelings of the Marvel fanatics when he talked to Schmoes Know. Regarding the Edgar Wright departure:

"I was very disappointed. I am a big fan of [Edgar's] movies. It's a very disappointing situation. Happened very late in the game. I don't think anybody's quite recovered. My heart goes out to Edgar - he's been involved with the project for a long time. But he's talented enough that you'll be hearing a whole lot from him and I'm sure with a little vengeance."
